Why You Need to Work Hard For What You Want
Nothing worth having in life comes easy or free. I am slowly, but surely learning this. Don’t get me wrong, I have been very blessed in my life, but I want more for myself. I am happy with where I am at, especially for my age, but I am not content. There is this fire of determination that is controlling me. It is pushing me to do whatever it takes to reach my dreams. Honestly, that is what it is going to take. You are going to have to work hard for what you want.
Yesterday, my mom had asked me a question that really got me to think deep and hard. She had been talking about a lifeboard and asked what my board would consist of if I had 5 million dollars. Sure, there are things that I would put on the board, such as travel and creating experiences with friends. I might even treat myself and buy a fancy car. But before any of this, my number one priority would be to pay off all of the debt for my family. I am talking about student loans, mortgages, car bills, all of it. This is how I view success.
Success is not defined by the type of car that you drive around in or the cost of your backpack. Success is defined by the accomplishment or the aim or purpose. If your life accomplishment is to have a ferrari, then sure, you would define success as having a fancy car. But not me. I envision success as taking care of the people around me so that they do not have to stress on a daily basis. I envision success as driving home from work and being able to see my family in the window without a worry in sight and a smile on their face. If I can take all of life’s burdens off of my family, then in my eyes, I will be successful.
Like I said, everyone has a different vision of success. But how do we get there? Odds are, you are not going to find 5 million dollars laying around to make this happen. What you truly need to do is work. You need to work hard for what you want. Relieving all of my family members debt is not something that is going to be easy, but it is what motivates me to get up everyday and work my butt off. It is what motivates me to spend more time working than relaxing.
Success doesn’t just relate to things that you can buy or pay off. If you are wanting to lose weight and get in better shape, the same rules apply to you. You are going to have to work hard for what you want. If you believe accomplishing anything successful is going to be easy, you are sorely mistaken. Unless you have great genetics, you are going to have to spend time and work your butt off. You will need to be working out in the gym for countless hours before seeing any noticeable progress.
No matter what you do, never tell yourself that you can’t do something. YOU are the only person that stands in the way of you and your goals. Too many people give up on their dreams. They say they can’t do something because they either have no money or because time is preventing them from doing so. People who are successful don’t worry about money or time, they only focus on the goal and the outcome. If they are busy during the day, they pull all nighters. If they have no money, they get a second job. Instead of hiding behind excuses, successful people will find a way to make their dreams a reality. If something means enough to you, you will find time to achieve your goals too.
When I was going through my weight loss journey, there were times that I wouldn’t get home from class until 9pm. I would go to the gym and study while I was on the treadmill or the bike. Even now, I work 8 hours everyday Monday through Friday. I spend an additional 2 hours driving in the car to and from work, the I workout for an hour, and then come home to spend 3 to 4 hours on my blog. It definitely isn’t easy, but I am so motivated to succeed. In terms of money, I have made nothing from this blog. I am not motivated by the money, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it. More importantly, I am motivated by the process. The process to be better every single day, and the process of helping others.
No matter what you want in life, simply go for it. Don’t live by the excuses that many others make just because they don’t want to put in the work. Work hard and have patience. Life is a grind. Learn to enjoy the grind, and learn to enjoy the process that comes with it. Know that you can do anything that you set your mind to. All you have to do is to work hard for what you want.
