If you want to be a winner, focus on winning.
Life is full of comparisons. As a society, we have learned that it is acceptable to compare our lives to the individual lives of others. It has become a constant battle of who can be the best and who can act like the best. Who can have the most money, who can be the best professional athlete, ect. All we want to do as humans is to win and be better than others. But what does it actually mean to “win” and how do we get there? I say screw what other people are doing. It is irrelevant in my life and how I chase my goals. There is a famous saying that will help you to understand how to be successful. Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners.
I first heard this saying while I was watching one of my favorite golfers, Rory McIlroy. Rory is widely known across the PGA Tour for his amazing talent, and also for his incredible work ethic. When McIlroy was asked what he does to be better than the competition, he said he doesn’t know because he doesn’t focus on what others are doing. He said that winners focus on winning and losers focus on winners. Let that sink in for a moment.
If you think deeply about this quote, you will realize how truthful it is. All of the successful people in life did not get to where they are because they focused on what their competitors were doing. Instead, they followed their desire to reach an ending goal. Take Rory McIlroy for example. He did not become one of the most successful golfers because he focused on how other professional golfers were playing and how they were living life. He got to where he is because he had a dream in place to play on the PGA Tour and focused solely on what he could do in order to reach his goals. The only thing that he can control is himself and his desire.
Just like McIlroy, we all have the capability to win in life. How? By pushing ourselves every single day and focusing on what it is that we want in life. It doesn’t matter your height, your weight, or you age. As long as you focus on you and your individual goals, you will win. You can’t change what others are doing with their life, so why even use the energy in trying to do so.
Focusing on yourself and your individual goals will also lead to happiness. Once you get the idea out of your head that you need to be better than someone else and once you stop comparing yourself to others, only then will you truly win. Chase you damn goals and do what YOU can do to get there. Don’t just take it from me. Take it from every successful person on this planet. If you want to win, you need to focus on winning and what you can do to get there, not about the others that are competing around you.
