Everybody goes through times in which you will lack motivation – even the basic motivation to make it out of bed in the morning.
Right now, I am going through one of these stages.
Not to get into all of the nitty-gritty’s of it because that doesn’t matter and you probably don’t really care, but over the course of the last few months, I have grown to dread having to go to a job in which I once loved.
I don’t feel like my efforts are being recognized, that my managers don’t really care about me, and that I have been taken advantage of just for the sake of making my managers a few extra dollars.
There, I said it, so now it’s time to get into how this will actually help you.
I have been going into work every day unhappy. I don’t even try to put a smile on my face when I go into work anymore because it’s just not worth it to me. It kind of sounds pathetic, and that’s because it is.
I can be unhappy all I want, complain about all that is wrong with my job, and feel the way I do, but until I actually gain the strength and courage to do something about it, that’s, unfortunately, going to be my reality.
You and I, we are worth more than the way we are treated by others. At the same time, though, others are only going to show us the same amount of respect that we should ourselves. If we don’t work to change our realities, we’re basically telling ourselves that we aren’t good enough or deserving of change.
Guess what… others are going to recognize this and treat us the same way that we treat ourselves.
Full disclaimer: I’m not recommending that you go into a job that you don’t like and call it quits out of anger. That would be too easy and it wouldn’t really be a wise decision.
Instead, trust yourself to make the changes in which you want to see in life and progress towards them. You need to realize that nobody is going to change your reality for you. If you want to achieve something in life, then it is up to you to achieve. Otherwise, if you aren’t willing to continue to move forward even in the times when you lack motivation, then you are never going to see any change in your life.

4 Ways To Motivate Yourself When You Lack Motivation
1. Remember Your Why
Why do you want to create change in your life? Is it because you want to feel more freedom? Is it because you want to be able to be on your own time instead of always being told when and where to be? Or is it because there is just an underlying passion that you have that won’t ever go away?
Whatever your why is, remember it. In all of the times when you lack motivation, try your best to think about your why and remember that unless you push through the barriers holding you back, your life is never going to change.
2. Set Smaller Goals
There are a few main contributors to why people have a tendency to give up when they fail. One is because they have a fear of failure (which is the next point), and the other is because they set overwhelming goals for themselves.
Life is a process. You aren’t going to wake up one day and instantly change your life with the snap of your fingers. As much as I hate to say it, those lofty goals that you set are going to take time to achieve.
What can you do to help stay motivated while remaining on track to achieve those goals? Set smaller and more attainable ones. You will feel the sense of accomplishment from achieving these smaller goals while knowing that they are leading to a bigger and better picture.
3. Don’t Be Afraid of Failure
Failure is part of the process of achieving the success that you want for yourself. You can either let your fear of failure stop you from living a memorable life and go back to the simplicity of living a mediocre one, or you can learn from your mistakes and let those mistakes help to grow who you are as a person.
Want to know a secret? I have applied to ten jobs so far in my search for creating a new reality for myself. Want to know how many of them rejected me and told me no? All of them. Yep, so far I have been rejected from every job that I have applied to.
Who cares though? Feeling sorry for myself and giving up isn’t going to change my reality. Unless I keep moving forward and do everything that I can to get a new job, nothing in my life is going to change. It’s that simple. I am the only person who is in control of my future, and I need to be willing to work for the change I wish to seek.
4. Give Yourself Credit
Whether you believe it to be true or not, you have achieved far more in life than you give yourself credit for. You have overcome obstacles in the past, the amount of which exceeds the obstacles that you may be facing in the present. Well, here you are, still alive and still kicking. It’s because you are strong and because you are capable of overcoming any obstacle that you face.
Be kind to yourself, reward yourself for both the small and big accomplishments, and never forget all that you have achieved. You are strong, you are capable of achieving greatness throughout the course of your life, and you will do so just as long as you realize that nothing is ever going to change unless you change it.
We can all sit and talk about all of the things that are wrong in our lives, but what about all that is right? Life is a blessing, we are a blessing, and it’s time to start making the most out of the one life that we will ever get to live.
No matter what you do today, keep your head high, put one foot in front of the other, and create the reality that you wish to live. It is up to you and only you to do so.
