What does it mean to live a healthy life?
When we think about this question, we tend to think of one aspect of our lives that is lacking. Maybe it’s our physical health, or our mental health, or our social health.
The truth of the matter is that living a healthy life doesn’t just mean we have one area of life figured out. It means that we have found balance in all areas of life and see all areas of life as equally important.
While everybody is different and is probably going to have different answers, this is what I believe it means to live a healthy life.
Our mindset on life is one of the few things that can make or break us. If we don’t have a strong mindset, we are going to be tied down by all of our weaknesses, all of the negativity that we endure, and by all of the mistakes we make.
On the contrary, the stronger our mindset it, the more creative we tend to be, the more self-reliant we are, and the more chances we give ourselves to live a happier and healthier life. Why is this? Because with a strong mindset, nothing can stop you from living a healthier and happier life aside from the very thoughts you think.
In a world filled with both negativity and positivity, judgment and encouragement, those who have adapted a strong mindset and choose to believe in themselves and see all of the positives in life are the ones who will have a healthier and stronger mindset.
Believe it or not, part of living a healthy life is how you choose to take care of your body.
Think of your body as a temple. It houses all of your organs, all of your thoughts, anything and everything you are is stored in your body. Without your body, you wouldn’t be anything.
The human body is truly fascinating. Look down at your big toe for a second. Now move it slightly. Do you realize that you just read something, it transpired a thought, that thought processed in your brain, and at the speed of light, that thought triggered a command at the opposite end of your body. How incredible is that?!?!
We often take our bodies for granted by not exercising them enough. Our bodies are like our minds, in order to grow and become stronger, we need to exercise and challenge them. Much like learning helps to strengthen and grow the mind, exercise helps to strengthen and grow the body.
And although not every person is going to notice this, physical exercise has also helped me to strengthen my mindset. Vice-versa as well – having a stronger mindset has helped me to strengthen my body. When you push one to grow you are simultaneously pushing the other.
We need human connection. We are meant to connect with those around us. We need connection to thrive.
I will admit that there have been times in my life where I lacked human connection. Instead of spending time with family and friends, I locked myself away and basically kept only to myself. I will also admit that these are the days when my depression would often take over and consume my thoughts. Now that’s not only because I was lacking social connection, but it definitely didn’t make things any easier.
Also know that the people you spend your time around can make you or break you. It will feel impossible to become the person you want to become or adopt the habits you want to reflect if you do not surround yourself around people who are going to bring out the best in you. As far as habits go, you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time around. Make sure their habits are reflective of your beliefs and of the type of person you want to become.
Part of living a healthy life means exploring all that this life has to offer. Every day of your life is going to bring something different, and every day is going to bring new opportunities to grow into the best version of you that you can become.
Unfortunately, many of us fall into the habit of going through the motions of life not having done too exciting things. We work ourselves away so that we can have a life on the weekends. Once the weekends roll around, we are too tired and need to “regroup” for the work week ahead.
There is more to life than work. Today is a day that none of us are ever going to get back. Why not make the most of it? Be adventurous, see new sights, do new things, learn new lessons, and experience all that this world has to offer. We all need to do a better job of making the most of the life we have remaining because every day that passes us by is just another day in which we are closer to death.
Love is the ultimate factor in a healthy life. Don’t just love others and love yourself. Learn to love life as a whole. Learn to love the highs and lows. Learn to love the good and the bad. Learn to love your friends and your enemies. When you learn to love, there isn’t anything that can get you down.
All of the negative emotions that we feel in life stem from negative thoughts and negative actions. The easiest way to counter these thoughts and actions is to replace them with love. Love helps to reduce stress, depression, pain, and misery. Simply put, love is the healer of any and all pain we experience. So live a happier and healthier life by learning to love.
