There is a quote by Karen Marie Moning that goes, “Who and what we surround ourselves with is who and what we become. In the midst of good people, it is easy to be good. in the midst of bad people, it is easy to be bad.” ― Karen Marie Moning
So I want to ask you something. Who and what do you surround yourself with? Do you surround yourself with people that bring out the good in you, and with the things that you enjoy doing? Or do you surround yourself with people and the things that don’t resemble the same morales and beliefs that you hold? Because whether you know it or not, it does matter.
One of the easiest things that we can do to define our success, is to surround ourselves with what it is that we desire. The quote above, “Who and what we surround ourselves with is who and what we become,” yeah, that is the truth.
That’s right, that means if you want to be successful, you need to be surrounding yourself with what your version of success looks like. You need to surround yourself with people who are going to lift you up, bring out the best in you, and challenge you to become the best possible version of yourself each and every day.
If you want to be happy, then you need to be surrounding yourself with the things that make you feel happier in life, and with the people who are going to lift you up, and the people who make you feel happy. And if you want to be more positive, then you need to surround yourself with more positivity.
Do you think that I choose to start my mornings off with inspirational and positive podcasts because I want to feel sad and unmotivated throughout the course of the day? Absolutely not. I choose to start my mornings off by consuming as much positivity as I possibly can simply because I want it to put me in a more positive mood that will help to set the pace for the rest of the day.
Guess what happens when we want change in our lives but we aren’t willing to act on it? It might seem strange, but nothing is going to change. We are going to remain the same, and we are going to think the same. And yes, for the record, I am being sarcastic.
If you want something that you don’t have, whether it be success, happiness, or positivity, then you need to do something that you aren’t currently doing. You need to be willing to change, and you need to be willing to push yourself harder than you have ever pushed yourself before. While it isn’t always easy, once your start making progress, and once you find the outcome that you desire, you will realize that it will all have been worth it.
I want you to know something. Whatever the change is that you are looking for in your life, then you have to genuinely believe that you deserve it. If you want to be richer, then you need to believe that you deserve to be richer. If you want to be happier, then you need to believe that you deserve to be happier. If you want to be more positive, then you need to believe that you deserve to be more positive. What you want in life, you need to believe that you deserve it. But you are also going to have to be willing to work for it.
Becoming the best version of yourself is not just an overnight accomplishment. You aren’t going to just wake up in the morning and expect to be the person that you want to be. You need to be willing to continuously work on improving the person that you are, challenge yourself to break out of your comfort zone, and surround yourself with the things, and with the people who are going to bring out the best in you, and who are going to uplift you.
Choose who and what you surround yourself with wisely. Make sure that your surroundings are a validation of the type of individual that you want to become. And never stop trying to be the best that you can be. You are meant to achieve greatness. You just need to believe in yourself, and surround yourself with what greatness looks like for you.
