I will admit, I may have been wrong this entire time.
I thought perfection was something that none of us would ever achieve. It didn’t matter what we did or how good we were at something, we were simply never going to be perfect. There was always going to be room for improvement.
While that may be the case, I can’t help but wonder: what if we already are perfect? What if perfection isn’t about being the best at something or having all the right answers?
Instead, what if perfection is being who we already are as individuals?
If perfection is about being the best, nobody can be a better version of us than ourselves, right?
I am starting to think that we are all perfect – just in our own unique ways. As long as we are our true and authentic selves, that should be what matters the most.
What is Perfection?
Perfection is defined as “The condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.”
Oftentimes, we think of perfection as getting a 100% on an exam, being the richest person alive, having the sexiest body, or just simply being the best.
But who is to say that any of these things are what perfection is truly about. These are just mental images that we have associated with the idea of perfection based on the beliefs that have been passed along to us from others.
Had nobody made fun of you for being overweight, would you still think you need six-pack abs in order to have the perfect body?
Had nobody made fun of you for being poor, would you still think you need to be the richest person alive in order to be perfect?
Had nobody told you that you needed to be different, to look different, or to act differently if you wanted to fit in, would you think you were anything but perfect?
The idea of perfection is bullshit and we have it all wrong. Perfection isn’t about being the best in the eyes of others, having the most of something, or looking a certain way. Perfection is about being the best individual that we can be because no matter how hard somebody else tries, they will never be able to be us.
That’s what perfection is all about.
How to Achieve Perfection
It’s simple really. We just tend to make it complicated because we care about the opinions of others more than we care about our own opinions.
If you want to achieve perfection, let that shit go. Let go of trying to please others. Let go of trying to be the person others want you to be. Be yourself, love yourself, trust yourself, and above all else, believe in yourself. You are you… that has been and always will be your greatest strength. Don’t let anybody else steal that from you.
Right now, you might be thinking about all of your flaws and weaknesses. But ask yourself something: who defined those flaws and weaknesses? Did you? Or do you feel the way you do because you have listened to the opinions of others?
If you want to achieve perfection, start by listening internally instead of externally. Listen to your heart instead of the world around you. As long as you are true to yourself and to your own personal beliefs, are you not then perfect? Are you not achieving something that nobody else will ever be able to achieve? Are you not achieving perfection by striving to be your best self instead of allowing outside factors to influence our lives?
Nobody is you and nobody is me. As long as we remain true to ourselves, the world will be exposed to the gift that only you and I can provide – the gift of individuality.
Isn’t that what perfection is all about?
Perfection Isn’t About Having, It’s About Being
Now I get it, we are never going to be the best at everything that we do. But are we meant to be?
Who are we even trying to be the best for? Are we trying to be the best for ourselves, or are we trying to achieve a certain image for the likings of others?
Perfection isn’t about having the most of something whether it’s money, wealth, popularity, or any other luxury we often strive for. It’s about being. It’s about being the individual we are meant to be, casting our own unique traits out into the world, and living the one life we have to live in a way that nobody else will understand.
We were all born separately for a reason. It isn’t so that we can be just like the other person to our left or right. It’s so that we can be us. We are already perfect the way we are because nobody will ever be able to do the things that we, as individuals, can do.
Before You Go
I’m kind of just saying screw it to everything else but to what and who I want to become. I may never be perfect in the eyes of others, but being my best self is better than any accolade out there. And to me, that’s what perfection is about.
The purpose of life isn’t to be perfect for others. It’s to be perfect for yourself, to live the unique and individual life you were born to live, and to impact the world in ways that only you can. There is a reason we were all given our own heart and soul, and that’s because we were meant to be different. So start being different. Be your unique self. Be your perfect self.
