Over the last few years, there has been a lot of new insight into personal growth, but people still want the same thing: a quick and easy way to an improved life while having to put in as little effort as possible.
You know what I mean. You dive headfirst into a new routine thinking that it’s going to solve all of your problems overnight. It doesn’t matter how big or small that problem might be, you expect that it will be solved immediately.
When you don’t see the results you want, we all know what happens next…
How do I know this to be true?
Because this is a completely normal thing to do.
We all have dreams and desires in which we want to achieve and expect them to come to fruition immediately. When they don’t, we get down on ourselves and either beat ourselves up, or we just quit and move onto the next shiny object life shines as us.
There are so many times where I have found myself looking for a quick-fix in life just because I didn’t want to put in the work. After realizing that something wasn’t going to come as easy as I thought it was going to, I get down on myself and question my skillset.
But what we need to remember personal growth isn’t an easy fix. There is no quick-fix pill that is going to miraculously grant you your dreams.
It’s a lifelong commitment and something that needs to be practiced daily.
While there are some things you can do to accelerate your personal growth, you can’t forget that life’s still going to be a process; one that is going to require time, effort, and a whole lot of dedication.
4 Ways To Accelerate Your Personal Growth
With that said, there are a few ways to quicken the process.
1. Write Down Your Goals
I sound like a broken record when I say this, but that’s because writing down your goals is so important.
Seriously, write down your goals, where you are at, and how you plan on reaching your goals. It’s the easiest thing you can do to accelerate your personal growth.
This works for all areas of life.
For example, over the last few weeks at work, we had to learn a whole new system. As a creature of habit who hates change, I struggled at first. I got so stressed that it was hard for me to breathe.
What I found is that writing down my questions and getting them onto a piece of paper helped to ease my stress. It’s because I wasn’t pressuring myself to remember all of the questions that I had. Instead, they were right there in front of me and I could move onto the next thought that raced through my mind.
Writing things down is a great way to reduce stress. Not only that, but it also helps you to remember what your goals are, and it helps you to stay motivated to continue to work towards those goals.
When you know exactly what it is that you want and you have a constant reminder in front of you, you are going to be more likely to continue to work towards that goal.
2. Surround Yourself With Uplifting People
I can’t stress this enough. Your network is your net worth!
Who you surround yourself with matters.
When you surround yourself with negative people, there’s no question that it’s going to be challenging to focus on anything positive in life.
But when you surround yourself with uplifting and inspiring individuals, it’s going to make it a whole heck of a lot easier to see your strengths and to continue onwards towards achieving your goals.
3. Be Willing To Learn
Back to my job… at first it was a nightmare trying to adapt to a new computer system. I don’t know where anything is, I felt as though I was struggling to do my job efficiently, and overall just didn’t feel good about it all.
But I knew that in the long run, it was going to make my job a lot easier. Sure, it might be a struggle at first, but over time, it’s all going to pay off.
One thing that we need to embrace is the fact that we might have to take a step backward so that we can take two steps forwards. Life is all about challenging yourself, learning new things, and adapting to new normals. If we aren’t willing to learn, life tomorrow is going to look no different than it did today.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be better tomorrow than I have ever been in my past. Part of doing so is by being willing to learn and willing to grow.
4. Commit To The Process
This is probably the single most important piece of advice I have for any of us when it comes to accelerating our personal growth.
We are never going to get anywhere in life if we give up on ourselves.
Yeah, life isn’t always easy. So what! Know exactly what it is that you want toa chive in life and continue to work towards that goal until you have achieved it.
Who knows, you may spend your entire life trying to achieve your goals, or you may spend a few years. The time it takes to achieve your goals is going to be different than the time it takes others, but one thing is for certain; if you give up on yourself, all of the work you have put in so far and the possibility of ever achieving your goals will be washed away.
Commit to the process. Commit to learning, growing, and doing whatever it takes to achieve your goals. Most importantly, commit to becoming the best individual that you can be. This is your life and you are in control.
Before You Go
Just a little quick tidbit here.
I remember feeling stressed that evening to the point where I felt as though I was going insane. Then I saw on Instagram that the house of someone I follow had burned to the ground. Everyone was safe, but they lost the home they had worked so hard to build. The family built the house with their own hands, laid every piece of brick and wood, and it was all lost.
I had to think about my day and how bad I thought it was. Something like that helped me to put into perspective how miniscule my problems really are.
It’s not to say that yours and my problems aren’t important, but it’s always good to remember just how good our lives truly are. We may experience challenges and struggles within our days, but we are still here – living the greatest gift known to man. If that’s not something to celebrate and be thankful for, then I don’t know what it.
Make today as amazing as you can possibly make it. Focus on becoming the best that you can be and control what you can control. That’s how you will accelerate your personal growth.
