Call it what you want, I am going to call it a Hulk moment. A moment where I proved to myself that I can actually achieve anything and everything that I set my mind to. A moment where I closed my eyes, envisioned all that I am capable of achieving, and took immediate action. For me, it was proof that thoughts have power.
Proof That Thoughts Have Power
It’s been hot and humid here in Minnesota for the last few days. The heat index is right around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and while that might not seem hot to those who are living in the desert, it is a wet heat. It’s a heat where you step outside, the air is sticky, and you immediately start sweating.
After helping my parents pack up their house as they make the cross country trek to Utah, there became a bit of a panic. The neighbors were running around, my mom and sister then began walking around frantically, and it left my dad and I looking at each other wondering what all of the commotion was about.
As a big storm was rolling in, one of my parent’s neighbors was walking on a path near their house, and she saw seven baby ducks trapped down in a storm drain. The momma duck was sitting on the path above the storm drain pacing back and forth wildly and crying for help.
I can’t really say that I know what the neighbor was running around telling people, but not after long, people were running in and out of their houses grabbing sticks, baskets, anything that they thought might help get the ducks out of the drain.
My sister and the neighbor were pulling at the lid of the storm drain trying to get it free so they could crawl down there and grab the ducklings, but it was not budging at all. We stood there calling the city and the non-emergency police number to have them come and help, but nobody was answering the phones.
This part is going to sound crazy, and if I were you, I probably wouldn’t believe it either. In the bat of an eye, my mind took over. All ll I remember telling myself was “be bigger.” I closed my eyes, envisioned myself lifting the metal lid off of the storm drain like some mid-century Hercules, and saving the day. You know, like a knight in shining armor saving a village. Yeah, I don’t really know why that’s what I envisioned, but it worked.
I walked over to the storm drain, looked down at the ducks, grabbed the metal bars of the storm drain, and lifted up with all of the strength that I had. The cover immediately ripped off, and everyone just kind of stood there for a second in disbelief to what had just happened. Me, a small little guy, had just ripped the cover off of the storm drain.

Then it was go time. I moved the metal drain to the side, my sister jumped down into the drain, and she started passing baby ducks out one-by-one to everybody to reunite them with their mom. One-by-one the ducks started following their mom into the bushes, and within a matter of a few minutes, all seven ducklings had been reunited with their mom.
The Main Point
So what is the point of me telling you this story? What is the point of me making myself seem like somewhat of a Hercules type hero? Don’t worry, I don’t actually think of myself like that, though.
The point of me sharing this with you is to share with you proof that thoughts have power. Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right. You can truly achieve anything and everything that you put your mind to, just as long as you are willing to believe.
For me, I don’t know why I all of a sudden had the confidence that I could lift the storm drain out of the ground, but I did. I closed my eyes, envisioned myself doing so, and I did just what I had envisioned. I was in shock, but it gave me proof that thoughts have power.
The truth is, we can all achieve far more than we give ourselves credit for. The first step to achieving any amount of greatness, though, is to first believe that you can. As long as you actually believe that you can achieve the goals that you have set for yourself, then nothing will be able to stand in your way.
