The Truth Behind My Happiness In Life

the truth behind my happiness

It is said that you are the average of the five people who you most associate with in life. For me, that would be my two sisters (and brothers-in-law), a good friend who I work with, my dad, and well, of course, my mom. Since it’s Mother’s Day, I want to share with you the truth behind all of my happiness, my mom.

As a twenty-five-year-old man, to say that I am a momma’s boy would be an understatement.

Some may choose to spend the majority of their time with only their friends, some may choose to spend their time with random strangers who are highly accomplished, but I choose to spend the majority of my time with my parents. My parents are the two individuals who I want to be the most like in my life, and they are the reason that I am not only alive but the reason that I am as happy as I am today.

Through a lot of the obstacles that I have faced in life, the hardest part has always been feeling as if I was always alone. I was rapidly losing all of my friends, I wasn’t talking to others or doing the things that I once enjoyed doing, and overall mentally, I simply didn’t care about life.

Since my dad travelled a lot for work, my mom was basically the only person who I would ever talk to. She was the person who was there to talk to me when I needed someone to talk to, the person who was there for me to catch me when I fell, and she was the friend whose shoulder I would cry on when I was having a bad day. While she may not know it, she is the reason that I am alive today.

Had it not have been for my mom being there for me every step of the way to tell me that everything would be alright, I would not be here today.

Had it not have been for my mom constantly challenging me to become the best version of myself each and every day, I would not be here today.

Had it not have been for my mom being the best friend that she is when I needed a friend the most, I would not be here today.

Had it not have been for my mom turning around that day in Utah when she had a gut feeling that something bad was about to happen, I would not be here today.

Not only did my mom give me life by bringing me into this world, but my mom has saved my life on numerous occasions. She is the reason that I am the person who I am today, and she is the reason behind all of my happiness. But more importantly, my mom is the reason that I am still alive. Without her, I wouldn’t have found anything to be happy about in life, and without her, I fear that my mental illnesses would have taken my life.

Mom,

What I am trying to say, is thank you. Thank for you always being there for me, and thank you for being my best friend. I would not be the person who I am today without your constant guidance, care, support, and without your love.

Thank you for being the mom who goes to see Bohemian Rhapsody with their son on a Sunday night. Thank you for being the mom who talks to their son every morning before work and tells him to have a good day. And thank you for being the mom who never ends a conversation without telling her son that she loves him.

I don’t know why God blessed me with the greatest mom in the entire world, but I am sure thankful that He did. You mean more to me than you will ever know, and I truly don’t know where I would be without you. You are the one who taught me how to be happy, and you are the one who taught me how to live life to the fullest. For that, I can’t thank you enough.

I know I don’t do a good enough job of telling you how wonderful you are and how much you mean to me, but without you, I would be nothing. I hope you enjoy your special day, and feel just as loved as you have always made me feel.

Thank you for being the world’s greatest friend, my hero, and thank you for being my mom. Love you momma!

Michael
