Is it worth it to even share my message? Could my “message” really be worth a million dollars? These are questions that I have asked myself in the past, and ultimately, it’s what attracted me to reading The Millionaire Messenger by Brendon Burchard.
There are a million books that tell you what you need to do to become a millionaire. They will tell you to work, to build companies, to invest all of your money, or to do hundreds of other things that can lead to you becoming a millionaire, but they don’t necessarily tell you how.
That is one thing that I really like about The Millionaire Messenger. Brendon Burchard gives a background on his life: having come from a small town in Montana, goes into detail about the near-death experience he had that encouraged him to share his message to the world, and the blueprint that he used to turn his message into multiple businesses that are worth millions of dollars.
There are three main arguments to The Millionaire Messenger that Burchard is trying to make:
- Your knowledge and experience (about any topic and in any field) have market value.
- You can help other people to succeed.
- You can be paid and make a very comfortable living by sharing your advice.
We live in an age where we can essentially do anything and be anything that we would like. Information has never been as easy to obtain as it is now. If you have a message to convey, a desire to share your message, and internet access to do so, you can make a career and a business in the industry by becoming an expert.
You can get paid for your knowledge by writing books, holding workshops, coaching, consulting, supplying informational products and programmes online, and from holding seminars. The possibilities are truly endless.
The Millionaire Messenger Summary
As you would expect, The Millionaire Messenger: Make a Difference and a Fortune Sharing Your Advice is precisely about doing exactly what the title suggests – becoming a millionaire by marketing yourself as an “expert guru” and sharing your message. And according to Burchard, everybody is an expert at something, and therefore has the ability to become a millionaire.
The book begins with Burchard describing the event that changed his life forever – a near-death car crash in the Dominican Republic. After going through a breakup with his high school sweetheart, he decided to move to the Dominican Republic with a friend for the summer to get away.
Early in the morning, Burchard and his friend were driving on the narrow roads of the Dominica Republic and found themselves going too fast around a corner. Before they could react, their vehicle went off the road and into a tree.
As Burchard found himself struggling to get out of the wreckage, he recalls how he never saw his life flash before his eyes. Instead, the crash led him to a realization that he had a second chance to live. Burchard found himself asking three simple questions:
• Did I live?
• Did I love?
• Did I matter?
The answer to his question: No. During his young corporate career, Burchard quickly began to realize that he was meant for more. His true calling wasn’t to work a desk job for the rest of his life. It was to spread his message – one that would soon become worth millions of dollars.
It wasn’t always easy for Burchard, especially starting out. But within 24 months of indulging in knowledge shared by other experts and elaborating on their ideas, Burchard started to see massive results. He became a best-selling author with his book “Life’s Golden Ticket“, was earning $25,000 for speeches, and selling out seminars $10,000 per ticket, where he would often share the stage with those he once admired the most. The best part is that he did it from sharing his knowledge, sharing what he was passionate about the most, and sharing his message.
How to be an Expert
Ask yourself something: Would anyone ever believe you’re an expert in any given field? Do you think you could ever get paid for it? These are exactly the topics that the remaining eight chapters cover.
One thing that I admire the most about Burchard is that he is one of the most humbled “experts” you will ever come across. Not only does he share all of his tips and strategies, but he also emphasizes the fact that everybody is an expert at something. He admits that he isn’t any better than anybody else despite earning millions per year. Instead, he shows what is possible when you work hard, believe in yourself, and follow your calling.
Once you fully comprehend the fact that you are capable of achieving anything that you desire and spreading whatever message you are passionate about spreading, then Chapter 5 will help you to direct your message towards your audience, and help you to package it into millions.
Is this book for everyone? No. This book is going to primarily for those who are passionate about their message, who want to get their message out into the world, and who want to make a substantial amount of money in doing so. Those are the kinds of individuals who are going to benefit the most from reading this book. If that sounds like you, then I would recommend it. If nothing else, it will help to give you a spark of motivation to start chasing your passion.
There are parts of the book that are somewhat repetitive, but overall I would say that it’s an incredibly powerful and impactful read – especially for those who are looking to grow a business from their message.
