It always has been, and it always will be.
No matter what it is that you want to do in life, remember one thing. The choice is always yours. It always has been, and it always will be.
As I was sitting on a dock yesterday in Boston just watching the boats pass and the waves splash beneath me, peace and calm completely filled my mind. I couldn’t help but to think how amazing it would be to call this city “Home” someday. How nice it would be to walk down to the ocean whenever I feel like it, to eat crab for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and to cheer on the Red Sox without being looked at like a lunatic.
Boston has, and always will be one of my favorite cities to travel to. To me, there are few greater places in the world.
While sitting on the dock, I FaceTimed my mom to show her the breathtaking view that I was currently looking at. I was looking at a beautiful view of MIT from across the river. And just like I was thinking to myself, I told her how badly I wanted to stay.
“Good for you. Now, what are you doing to make that happen? How are you going to make that dream become a reality?” Puzzled by the question, I responded with an “I don’t know.”
She then told me something that I will never forget. She said, “If you want it so badly, then move there someday. You are 25 years old. It is your choice to move there if you want to.” These were the wise words from my mom that captured my mind for the rest of the night.
Just like always, she was right. What am I doing on a daily basis to make my dreams become a reality? Why am I not investing into myself as much as I should be? And why am I making decisions to make others proud of who I am, instead of making decisions for myself?
I asked myself these exact questions yesterday time and time again. Now, I want to ask you the same ones.
Are you doing what you need to be doing on a daily basis to make your dreams become a reality? Are you investing into your dreams as much as you should be? And are you making decisions for yourself, instead of making decisions to try and please others?
However it is that you are wanting to answer, know something. Know that the choice is always yours. No matter what dream it is that you are wanting to achieve, no matter where you want to live someday, no matter what you want to do with your life, it is entirely your choice. It always has been, and it always will be.
For me, this talk with my mom left me feeling grateful and determined. Grateful to have gained a new perspective, and to realize how far I have come in pursuing my dreams so far. And determined to make every single one of my dreams become a reality.
Never have I been more determined, and it is all because of five simple words, “the choice is always yours.”
Someday, I will live in Boston. Someday, I will be able to travel the world, work from wherever it is that I am, and live the life that I have always dreamt of living. It is my choice, and that is the choice that I, myself, want to make.
But it doesn’t stop with moving to Boston. This is the motto that I am going to follow for every one of my dreams. No matter what it is that I want to accomplish, I can and I will accomplish it. I am going to do whatever it takes to go from ordinary to extraordinary.
Ask yourself a question. How badly do you want to live an extraordinary life? Then prove it. Don’t settle for an ordinary life. Live an extraordinary one. Live the life that makes you the most happy.
With whatever it is that you want to do, work for your dreams, and never stop believing in yourself. You can achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve in life. Remember, you have the ability to create whatever future you want to live. The choice is always yours. It always has been, and it always will be.
