You Are Blessed. Others Have It Worse

Do you ever just sit back and think about how lucky you are? Seriously, we wake up every day with a roof over our heads, food in our stomachs, and a life where we can make something out of nothing. No matter what it is that we want in life, as long as we work hard and believe, we can achieve. Plain and simple, we are incredibly lucky. Incredibly lucky because there are 6 billion others in the world that don’t have many opportunities. Opportunities that you and I take for granted. Those 6 billion others have it worse than me and you ever will.

Now I am not trying to tell you what to feel, or how to go about living your life. I am simply trying to shed some light on your current situation so that you can truly see how blessed you are to be in the position that you are in. We are all blessed. Sometimes, we just need a little help from others to change our perspective. So the next time that you want to complain for not having enough money or enough motivation, remember something. Remember that 6 billion others have it worse. Let me explain.

– The world’s population is 7.44 billion people. Of the 7.4 billion people in the world, around 6 billion people live off of less than $10 US dollars per day. Think about that. We sometimes spend $10 on one cup of coffee, and this is what more than 80% of the world lives off of for an entire day.

– Nearly half of the world’s population lives off of less than $2.50 per day. $2.50 is equivalent to a bottle of soda. 3.5 billion people all over the world are living with less than that per day.

– Of the 6 billion people that live on less than $10 per day, a quarter of them do not have access to electricity of any sorts. That is nearly 1.6 billion people around the world that have never had a phone, never watched tv, and have never had the ability to turn lights off and on.

– Of the world’s population, 6 billion people will never have the opportunity to start their own business, to buy a car, to buy a multi-room house, to take a vacation for even a few days at a time, to turn on air conditioning in the summer, or to retire when they become older.

How much is 6 billion people? As of today, there are a total of 327 million people that live in the US. Yeah, eighteen times the amount of people that live in the US live with less than $10 a day. How can we complain after seeing that? How can we do anything but to be thankful for what we have?

The truth is, we need to focus on being grateful. Be grateful for what you have, instead of complaining for what you don’t have. If you want something in life, go out and get it. Go out, work hard, and chase your dreams. Chase them until you turn them into a reality. You have every single opportunity in front of you to create whatever life that you want for yourself. That is something that 80% of the world’s population doesn’t have.

Now I can only speak for myself, but I can’t help but to realize how blessed I truly am. Blessed to have my family, to be healthy, to have a roof over my head, to have food in my stomach, and blessed to be able to pursue any and every single one of my dreams.

Once you put into perspective how truly blessed you are, all of a sudden your dreams become reachable. Work as hard as you can, never give up, and focus on your blessings. Take advantage of every opportunity that you have in front of you. Remember that others have it worse. Remember that there are 6 billion other people who would love to be in your position. Don’t waste the opportunity you have in front of you.
