Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the richest person out of the seven billion people that walk this planet? Well, Jeff Bezos is this man.
Whether or not your goal is to surpass the wealth of Jeff Bezos or not, there are some things that we can all take away from Jeff Bezos that will help us to find regular success within our own lives.
Simply put, Bezos is a genius. He has changed how society thinks, knows what our society wants, and has delivered on all of our endless desires. He has successfully navigated his way to the top and has not looked back since.
But how did Bezos get there? How did a man who worked on Wall Street for six years manage to become the wealthiest man alive, and what separates him from you and me?
Here is a look at the morning routine of Jeff Bezos and some ideas that you can implement into your mornings as well.
The Morning Routine of Jeff Bezos
Bezos is another one of those incredibly successful individuals who likes to wake up early. He goes to bed early and he wakes up early as well.
The way Bezos described is, he likes to “putter” in the morning. He takes his time in the morning, reads the newspaper, enjoys a cup of coffee, and he will enjoy a good breakfast with his children before sending them off to school. By spending his morning on mindless tasks, his mind is able to wander and he feels more creative.
When it comes time for work, Bezos happens to be a late bloomer. Instead of rushing to get his work tasks done early in the morning, he will schedule his first meeting for no earlier than 10 a.m.
What I like about his morning routine is that he doesn’t rush. I am guilty of rushing in the morning. I try to get as much done as I can in the morning so that I am less stressed during the night.
Bezos, on the other hand, takes his time and enjoys relaxing in the morning. Whether or not you start your day by working in the morning hours or take that time to relax, the key is to be as efficient with your time is possible so that you can enjoy your free time when you do have it.
Getting Down To Business
As I mentioned, Bezos will not schedule any meeting before 10 a.m. But when 10 a.m. rolls around, you better believe that Bezos means business.
Bezos will schedule his most important meetings for the day for 10 a.m. as he feels that’s when his brain is the sharpest. How he puts it, “I like to do my high IQ meetings before lunch, like anything that’s going to be really mentally challenging, that’s a 10:00 a.m. meeting.”
I, for one, can definitely relate to this. I am a morning person and get the majority of my tasks for the day accomplished from 6 a.m. to noon. Once it’s lunchtime and I eat some food, I coincidentally become one of the most unproductive individuals ever.
I know this is true and have adapted to this, which is why I try to get my most important tasks done first thing in the morning. Plus, it just helps me to find clarity when I am not tied down by the stress of knowing that I have a lot to accomplish as the day progresses.
Calling It A Day
One thing that I really like about Bezos’s philosophy is that he will not make any major decisions at the end of the day. At the end of the day, he will purposely put off tasks and decisions until 10 a.m. the following morning just so that he knows if he has to make a decision, it will be with a strong mind.
Once the mind gets exhausted, it acts out of impulse instead of acting within reason and logic. And if you know anything about making impulse decisions, you know how all too well how detrimental they can be to your success.
The Importance of Sleep
Often times, when you hear about individuals waking up earlier in the morning, they will also tell you how they have had to supplement some sleep in order to do so.
I am one of these individuals.
While I have been doing better with making sure that I am getting enough sleep, there are days where I won’t fall asleep until midnight while having my alarm set for 5:30 a.m.
Not Bezos, though.
The only time that Bezos won’t get at least eight hours of sleep is if he is traveling to a different time zone. Other than that, Bezos said he makes sure to get eight hours of sleep as he says, ”I think better, I have more energy, my mood is better, all of these things.”
If you ask me, that’s not what I would have expected from the world’s wealthiest man.
What We Can Learn From Bezos
The biggest thing that I took away from the morning routine of Jeff Bezos is that we don’t need to have more time in the day in order to achieve the things that we want to achieve.
Instead of wanting more time, we just need to learn to be more productive with the time that we do have. If the wealthiest man and owner of the largest company in the world can get everything work-related done within a seven-hour window, I assure you that you can as well.
In life, there are some things that you can control and some things that you can’t control. Productivity, time-management, and efficiency are all things that you can control. So use your time wisely, know what it is that you want to accomplish, and let nothing hold you back.
Everybody has the same 24 hours in the day. Make them count!
