Why it is important to master your own thoughts and focus
Over the last two or three weeks, I have really been focusing on bettering my thoughts, and improving my mentality. To me, happiness is not only a feeling, but it is also a choice. I have been starting my days off by listening to inspirational podcasts, and reading as many motivational blog articles as possible. It makes me feel better if I start my day off on a motivational and positive note. Through these past weeks, I have been able to see a much greater picture in life. When you surround yourself with things that you are passionate about, and when you approach them with a positive mindset, then you will be able to master your own thoughts and focus on what truly matters.
Controlling my thoughts and finding happiness in things that I am passionate about has not always been an easy task. Let’s take golf for example. I used to be a huge golfer. There was just one issue. I was so competitive that when I would hit a bad shot, the club that was once in my hand found its way into the nearest tree. I had no control over my thoughts or emotions on the golf course. Unfortunately, I have broken some clubs over trees or over my knees, because I wasn’t enjoying the process. I was so focused on being the best, that I forgot how to love the game. My mind was loving the game for the wrong reasons, which is why it sometimes made it difficult to enjoy.
When I took a step back and realized that it was just a game, only then was I able to enjoy it. I wasn’t going to be the next Tiger Woods, I just wanted to go out and enjoy my time. Guess what happened when I took a more positive approach approach. I saved money by not breaking clubs, started to enjoy just being on the course, and I was posting much better scores. To be a better golfer, I didn’t need to beat myself up when I mishit a shot, I needed to control my thoughts and enjoy it for the game that it is.
In order to live a happy life, you need to have a happy mind. It really is a lot easier than it sounds. Sure, you might wake up one morning and roll off of the wrong side of the bed. I get it, this happens to me as well, but it doesn’t prevent me from having an amazing day. See, it is all about perception. It’s not like I wake up in a bad mood and just chalk my day up as a loss. Instead, I focus on my goals for the day and tell myself that I can do it. I know that I have the power to change my day, I just need to change my thought process and perception in order to do so.
So how does a positive mind help to master your thoughts? Like I said earlier, when I started approaching golf (something that I was passionate about) with a more positive approach, I was able to enjoy it more and simultaneously post better scores. The same applies to why I start my morning by listening to motivational podcasts. I am passionate about motivating and inspiring others. As my life’s mission, I want to help as many people out as I possibly can. When start my day off by listening to podcasts and surrounding myself with positivity, I am not only establishing a positive mindset, but I am also setting the pace for the remainder of my day.
Life is not easy, nor should you expect it to be. If you are truly passionate about something, all you need to do is approach it with a positive approach. Once you start to live your life surrounded by positivity and your passions, then you will be happy. You will see life for the amazing gift that it truly is, and you will be able to master your own thoughts and focus on what truly matters.
