I love telling people what it is that I want to do with my life. Every time somebody asks me, I tell them the truth. There is nothing more that I want than to travel the world, own a tiny home (or even a van), and blog. If I can make money doing something that I am passionate about while simultaneously helping others, then what more could I possibly want in life?
The responses are priceless. What once was a look of curiosity turns into a look of judgment. Here are some of a few of them.
“Wait, are you serious?”
“Why would you want to blog as a profession?”
‘How would you even make money from blogging?”
“Okay, what do you REALLY want to do with your life?”
These are just a few of the responses when I say what it is that I want to do with my life. There was also a time where I was recommended to find a good-paying job and to “start living in the real world.”
Living In The Real World
Everybody’s imagination is different. Some people want to be doctors, others want to be lawyers, some want to be affiliate marketers, and others simply aren’t too worried about anything past today.
But there is this belief that “living in the real world” means getting a corporate job, starting a family by the age of 30, and investing all of your money into your 401k only so you can start living the life that you want to be living by the age of 67. This whole waiting 67 years in order to start actually living your life doesn’t seem like a fair trade-off to me…
This isn’t what living in the real world means though. This is what it looks like to be living out of fear, to be living based on your doubt, and to be living based on what you presume to be the expectations of others.
All of the times that you don’t take a chance on yourself because you think about all that could go wrong or the people that you may disappoint, that’s the farthest thing from living in the real world. That’s delusion.
Living in the real world is by living in the world in which you wish to live in. It means doing the things that you want to be doing, being the things that you want to be, and going to the places that you want to go to. It’s living by what is real to you and making the most out of the life that you have in front of you.
Live Your Life
We oftentimes focus on living a life for the approval and acceptance of others instead of living the life that we truly want to be living. The truth is, this is the one and only life that we get to live – why would we live it for the approval for others instead of living for the approval of ourselves?
Whatever it is that you want to do in your life, simply do it. If you want to travel the world, then travel the world. If you think you have a crazy good idea for a business and want to start one, then do it. If you want to go backpacking across Europe for a year just for the sake of doing so, then just do it. You will never know what you are truly capable of achieving in your life unless you actually take the risk and give yourself a chance.
There’s No Point In Waiting
The longer we wait to start living our lives, the less of a life we have left to live. Don’t wait any longer to start living the life that you want to live. Start right now and live every moment like it is your last.
There are going to be people who are going to question you every step of the way, people who are going to doubt you, and people who are going to criticize your every move. It’s not because they are scared for you, but rather because they are jealous. They are jealous that you are doing something that they can’t and creating the very life for yourself that you want to be living. They are jealous that you are living in the real world where they are living in one based on fear and delusion.
