Let the countdown begin.
In less than three weeks, I will be laying out under the sun on the beaches of Hawaii relaxing, eating good food, possibly having a few cocktails, and just enjoying the beauty that will be surrounding me.
There is something about vacations that I love. I don’t know why, but it seems like I feel the most “free” when I am on vacation. There seems to be no stress, no anxiety, and no commitment to be tied down to do anything that I really don’t feel like doing. Just nothing but relaxation and enjoyment.
That my friends, is what vacation is all about. Simply living in the moment, cherishing the world around us, and loving the life that we are living.
As I have been trying to contain the excitement that is running through my head, I have had to ask myself something. Why does it seem like I wait for vacations to start living the way that I want to live my life, and why does it seem like I wait for vacations to feel freedom? Why not live our entire life like we are on a vacation?
When I say the word vacation, what comes to your mind? Tropical getaways? Luxurious resorts? Traveling to a different country? Maybe it is loading up the car and taking a cross country road trip. Or maybe, it is even something as simple as staying home curled up on the couch, with a book in your hands.
But does a vacation necessarily need to be any of these things? In all reality, a vacation can be anything that we want it to be. As long as we are breaking out of the everyday pattern of life, well, then we are on vacation. This is something that I have recently started to realize.
It amazes me how much stress we are willing to put ourselves through just so that we can take a vacation every once in a while. Think about it. We bust our tails off at work for 40 hours a week, drive to and from work, get in a quick workout, clean the house, cook, and then if we are lucky, maybe we get eight hours of sleep.
All of this hard work for what. To wake up the next day just so that we can do it all over again? If you are one of the lucky few, maybe you put yourself through this misery just to accumulate a few hours of paid time off. Again, that is if you are lucky.
As I began to observe my own life, I had to ask myself what vacation resembles to me. Sure, the thought of taking time off of work came to my mind. But more so, it was about being able to do what I love. Being happy, being able to feel free in life, and simply feeling joy in life. All of these things without having to worry about the stress of my diet, money, or work.
So naturally, I had to ask myself why the hell am I not doing this right now? Why am I stressing about my diet, why am I stressing about money, and why the heck am I concerned with work when I have already put in my time? What I should be doing, is living for enjoyment and opportunity first, and focusing on these things second.
Asking myself this question has really helped to put things into perspective for me. It has helped me to realize that my life is more valuable than eight hours of work a day, more valuable than the amount of money that my job pays me, and much more valuable than the amount of calories in the foods that I eat.
My life is about following every single one of my dreams, doing the things that bring me joy and happiness, and living every second of my life for the true blessing that it is. I don’t need a five-star resort to start feeling freedom. I don’t need a tropical getaway to feel happiness in life. And I don’t need any luxurious amenity to bring my happiness. What I do need, is to live the life that I was born to live, and do the things that matter the most to me. All of the rest will follow.
The way I see it, this is the one life that any of us will ever get to live. At any given moment, our lives could all be over without even so much as a second’s notice. While that might be a scary thought, hopefully it will help us to put in perspective how valuable our lives actually are.
I can tell you one thing, you can life your life however it is that you want to live it. Why not treat it like a vacation and just enjoy everything about it? It’s time we all start seeing it that way, and it’s time that we live our lives to its full potential.
