Many people go through life and allow the mistakes made in their past to determine their present. Excuses pour out of their mouths, self-pity fills their mind, and past experiences control their current actions. What they fail to realize, though, is that life is a journey. What happened yesterday doesn’t determine what can happen tomorrow.
Life Is A Journey
Here’s the thing about mistakes: you are going to make them. If you don’t make mistakes, and if you don’t make them often, then you simply aren’t trying hard enough. You aren’t taking enough risks on yourself, and you aren’t believing in yourself as much as you need to be.
Every day is going to bring new challenges, as it should. There are going to be times where you become frozen out of fear, times where your heart is going to race out of excitement, and times where your thoughts are going to spiral out of control due to the uncertainty that lies ahead. Don’t allow these emotions to paralyze you. Move forward inch by inch, and just be sure to get started.
Just Get Started
Whether you are sitting on what you think of to be a brilliant idea, or have a dream of building something from the ground up, just be sure to get started. Taking action towards achieving your desires is the key to success, because without taking action, you will never know what could have been your reality.
We often wait for the right time to start working towards the things that we want to achieve in life. Truth be told, there will never be a “right time.” Today is going to bring many various distractions and challenges, as will tomorrow. In fact, every single day of our lives will come with distractions and challenges. The longer you wait to start pursuing what it is that you want to achieve in life, the more time you are wasting and the less likely you are to even get going in the first place.
Start Before It’s Too Late
Life is a journey. It’s the only journey that any of us are ever going to get, and it is going to go by in the blink of an eye. Before we know it, we are going to take a blink, open our eyes, and a decade will have passed us by. Close our eyes and open them up again, and another decade will have passed. It might not seem like it in the exact moment, but when you reflect on your life five years ago, it will feel as if it was just yesterday.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
There Is No Better Time Than Now
This isn’t going to be pleasurable, but it will help to put things into perspective.
Look ahead in your life. Imagine you are 75-years-old and are on your deathbed. What is the one thing that you are going to regret? I promise you that when you are running low on time, the one thing that you are going to regret is not doing more with the precious time that you had in life.
You will have wished that you wouldn’t have cared about being judged by others. You will have wished that you weren’t too afraid to take a chance on yourself and face your fears. You will have wished that you were your younger self again so that you could prevent the feeling of regret that you currently have.
Right now, you have the opportunity to prevent that feeling. You have the opportunity to prevent your older self from feeling that sense of regret for not doing more with the time that you had, and you have the opportunity to make the most out of every second that you have left. All you need to be willing to do is to move past your fears and start taking action. There is no better time than right now to start working towards the things that you want to achieve.
You don’t want to look back on your life and say, “I wish I had.” Start now so that you can look back on your life and say, “I am glad that I did.”
