Choices That Lead To A Better Life

Life is a journey – one that is similar to that of a rollercoaster.

There are going to many high points along the way, and there are unfortunately going to be some low points as well. 

How we choose to live our lives, though, is completely and entirely up for us, as individuals, to decide. We create our own path based on the choices that we make in the present moment. It is these choices that will either hold us back from living the life that we have always wanted to live or lead us towards a better life. The outcome, well like I already said, that is up for us to decide. 

Here are 10 choices to make that will lead to a better life

(or at least 10 choices that have helped me to live a better life). 

1. Let go of the past

Every single day is a new day. It does not matter what has happened in the past. All that matters is what you do in the present moment to help push you towards living the life that you have always dreamed of living. 

You won’t be able to change what has already come and gone anyhow, so learn to let go of your past burdens, and leave them where they belong – in the past. 

2. Appreciate what you have

Life is much better when you show gratitude for the very life in which you are living. There is a sense of happiness that you will feel when you choose to love those around you, appreciate all that you have, and when you choose to be thankful for every experience that happens in your life – even the negative ones. 

One of the most difficult things to do, but also one of the best influences on your overall happiness, is to smile. Through the good and bad, smile. Not because life is perfect, but because you are living the greatest gift known to man – the gift of life itself.

3. Quit beating yourself up

It’s not going to do you any good. Trust me, after years of constantly beating myself up, the only thing that I was doing was digging myself a deeper hole to climb out of. 

You are one of a kind, and that is the best thing that could have ever happened to you. You are going to make mistakes along the journey of life, but your mistakes will never determine your future unless you allow them to. Learn from your mistakes, grow from your mistakes, and simply move on. 

4. Treat others the way you want to be treated

Good things happen to good people. Always remember that!

Whether it is going out of your way to hold the door open for a stranger, making someone laugh to help cheer them up, or simply letting somebody know that you appreciate them, remember to always treat others the way that you would want to be treated. 

There are more than seven billion humans on this planet. You and I, we are not better or worse than any of them.

5. Treat yourself the way you want others to treat you

You don’t want others to sit there calling you names, saying that you’re fat, or that you’re dumb, or that you will never amount to anything, do you? So then why do you do it to yourself?

Treat yourself the way that you want others to treat you. Appreciate all that you have achieved so far in your life, be respectful and loving of the body that you are in, and start accepting yourself for the amazing individual that you are. 

6. Seize every opportunity that life presents to you

We all know that life is short. Do you really want to look back when you are older and wish you would have done more with the time that you had? Or do you want to be able to look back and know that you lived your life to the absolute fullest potential? 

We all only get one life to live, so it’s time to start making the most out of every opportunity that life throws at us, and live our best lives each and every single day.

7. Stop overthinking everything

How often do you psych yourself out over a situation that has not yet presented itself? How often do the thoughts that spin in your mind actually come to reality just as you imagined they would? Probably not all that often. 

Do you want to know what helps with overthinking? Surrendering. Surrender to life because whether you like it or not, you don’t control life, life controls you. Whatever happens, well, that’s just part of life’s greater plan for you.

8. Quit comparing yourself to others

“Comparison is the thief of joy.” – Theodore Roosevelt

The only person who you should ever compare yourself to, is the person who you were yesterday. Focus on being just one percent better each and every single day. 

Everybody is different. We all have different likes and dislikes, and different things in which we excel at as well as struggle with. As much as you want to be just like somebody else, you never will be. Embrace the individual and incredible person who you are, love yourself for who you are, and focus on being the best that you can be. 

9. Let go of the idea of being perfect

There is no such thing as perfection. Nobody is perfect, and nobody will ever be perfect. As good as you may be at something, there is always going to be room for improvement. 

When you are focused on being perfect, you become hesitant to take risks because you are fearful of failure. Well, If you are never willing to fail, then you are never going to get the opportunity to learn and grow from your mistakes. 

Bottom line, don’t try to be perfect. Make mistakes and love every mistake that you make as it is nothing but an opportunity to become a better you. 

10. Slow down and appreciate all of the beauty around you

There is so much beauty all around us that we fail to realize because we are so caught up in the daily rush of life. Start slowing down, take a few minutes every hour or a few times a day, go outside, breathe the fresh air, listen to the sounds of nature around you, and just find stillness within your mind. 

Once you learn to start slowing down, that’s really when you start to appreciate life and find happiness in even the smallest of things. 

Final Thoughts

It’s important to remember that everything in your life is on you. While you may not be able to control every situation, you will always have the power of perception. 

Prioritize the good, accept the negative, and always strive to be the best that you can be. 

I believe that these 10 choices will lead to a better life, so whether it’s one of these or all of these, start implementing them into your daily life. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
