Here’s the thing, each and every day is going to bring new challenges in which we are faced with to overcome. I mean three months ago, did you think the country was going to lockdown overnight? Probably not.

Nobody could have expected it. But life had other plans and this has just been one of the many challenges we will be faced with over the course of our lives.

There are going to be other challenges as well. We are going to experience illnesses, heartaches, loss of loved ones, you get the idea. Despite being an optimistic person, these are just ways of life. There is no avoiding them.

How To Make The Most Out of Each Day

So how do you make the most out of each and every day? How do you make sure that today is going to be the best day of your life and also ensure that tomorrow is going to be better than today?

Truth be told, it’s going to take practice, especially since we have all lived a certain way for much of our lives.

But if you want to make the most out of each day, you have to stop playing it safe. You need to break past your comfort zone and embrace each opportunity that life presents you with for the learning experience that it is.

Seems logical enough, doesn’t it?

Well, I thought so too, until I dug deeper and really honed in on what this meant.

Defining A Good Day

In looking at my life, I will admit that I am one who has always defined a good day as one in which I experience little to no fear. Little to near fear means that there is little to no room to make mistakes. And of course, many of us are taught that in order to have a good day, we need to make no mistakes.

To some extent, we all live like this. We all define a good day as one in which our egos are protected, by holding on to any sense of security and comfort we have, and by experiencing as few disturbances as possible. Feeling good about ourselves and avoiding mistakes is what’s supposed to make us “happy.”

But what if it’s actually the opposite way around? What if we are truly just causing ourselves more pain and misery down the road? What if mistakes are actually the key to success?

See, when we are fearful of making mistakes, we tend to close ourselves off from anything new in order to protect the very things in which we are trying to hold onto, such as our egos, our self-worth, and all that are comforting to us. But by protecting ourselves, we are only hindering our ability to grow and to strengthen ourselves as individuals. We will never experience freedom or happiness in living this way.

If we truly want to make the most out of each day, we need to first start by redefining what a good day actually means in the first place. Is a good day one in which we just go through the motions in order to feel comfortable? Or is a good day an eventful and exciting one?

Redefining A Good Day

There is a passage from The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer that sums it up well. It’s actually a passage that initially sparked this train of thought. It goes:

“You will get to a point in your growth where you understand that if you protect yourself, you will never be free. It’s that simple. Because you’re scared, you have locked yourself within your house and pulled down the shades. Now it’s dark and you want to feel the sunlight, but you can’t. It’s impossible. If you close and protect yourself, you are locking this scared, insecure person within your heart. You will never be free that way.”

That doesn’t sound fun, does it? That’s because this wouldn’t lead to you having a good day.

A good day isn’t achieved by locking ourselves down and protecting all that we have. It’s actually achieved by doing the exact opposite.

A good day is achieved by letting go of all that is holding us back, by exploring all of the various opportunities that life presents us with, and by growing from who we were yesterday into the person we want to become. This is what it means to have a good day.

Can you imagine how stagnant and boring life would be if we all just closed down and protected ourselves? Of course you can because you are already doing it.

Maybe you have an eventful and exciting life. Just imagine how much better your life would be with even more excitement in it. That would be amazing, wouldn’t it? So start doing it.

Final Thoughts

This week I am going to really challenge myself, and I want you to join me in this.

It’s time that we make the most out of each day for the amazing blessing that it is. It’s time we grow from who we were yesterday into the person we want to become. It’s time that we push ourselves out of our comfort zone and experience what it means to have a good day.

Challenge yourself however you see fit. It doesn’t matter how you do it, all that matters is that you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, do something that challenges you, and experience what it means to make the most out of each day.
