I Have Always Hid From Pain… Until Now

What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, right? Isn’t that how the saying goes? Yeah, this was not a saying that I used to live by. It was more along the lines of “stay away from what could kill you, and only do things that you know you are capable of actually achieving.” Needless to say, I used to be the type of person who always hid from pain. That is, of course, until I realized how beneficial pain actually is.

The thing about pain, it challenges you, it causes you to think, and it helps you to get outside of your comfort zone and grow as an individual. That’s what pain is – when your body and mind are in distress because they are experiencing things that are outside of your comfort zone.

Nothing good ever comes from playing it safe.

Nothing good ever comes from playing it safe in life. Life isn’t about playing it safe. It’s about taking risks on yourself and giving yourself the best opportunity to succeed. If you aren’t willing to experience pain, then you aren’t giving yourself a chance to live a better life than the one that you are currently living. You will not grow, you will not change, and you will not experience any additional joy from what you have already experienced.

Life is a gamble. In order to succeed and achieve the things that you desire, you are also taking the gamble that you may experience pain. Without taking this gamble, though, not only will you never grow, but you will never even give yourself the opportunity to succeed.

Living a pain-free life is to live a boring life.

Let me tell you a little something about always trying to play it safe, never giving yourself an opportunity to really go after what you want in life, and constantly hiding from any and all amounts of pain. It is an incredibly boring way to live life.

I used to be scared to venture outside of my daily routine because I didn’t want to experience pain. I mean, I was already experiencing enough mental pain, I wasn’t willing to experiencing any more.

From waking up at the same time, only doing the same activities throughout the day, to getting home from work only to go to my bedroom for the rest of the night. I guess you could say that I was living a pretty uneventful life. And it was to nobody else’s fault but my own.

Think about it. I wasn’t going out with friends because I didn’t want to experience pain, I wasn’t taking risks on myself because I didn’t want to experience pain, and I wasn’t giving myself an adequate chance to really achieve my dreams because I didn’t want to experience pain. What I really wasn’t doing, is I wasn’t living my life.

Happiness lies on the other side of pain.

If you really want to find happiness and joy in your life, then you need to be willing to experience pain as well. To be willing to experience pain is to simultaneously be willing to give yourself the opportunity to experience happiness and joy in your life as well. Without one, you will never feel the other.

I will be the first to tell you that it is not worth it to hide from pain in your life. Since I quit trying to hide from pain, my life has never been better. It’s not better because I actually experience pain, or because I want to experience it, or because I enjoy experiencing pain. My life is better than it has ever been because I am now at least giving myself the opportunity that I deserve to achieve all that I desire.

You were meant to do the same. You were meant to live your life to the fullest. You were meant to seek adventure, to create lasting experiences, and to live the life of your dreams. That life starts when you quit trying to hide from pain and when you decide to at least give yourself the opportunity to succeed.

Stop limiting yourself and start living your one life. Do it now and never regret another moment of your precious life.
