Looking for some helpful ways to get unstuck in your life?
It’s easy to fall back into old habits when the world around you seems to be moving at a million miles per hour. Life gets busy, and if we aren’t consciously aware of the changes that we are trying to make during all times of the day, then it’s easy to get stuck.
I’m right there with you. There are many times where I have to catch myself from slipping back into old and unwanted habits – many of these times come when I am going too fast to consciously think about my actions.
I guess that’s just what happens when you get busy. Lucky for me, I haven’t slipped too badly.
But even if we slip and make mistakes, that doesn’t mean that we should just stop, now does it?
Everybody has the same twenty-four hours in a day, and with all due respect, life isn’t going to wait around for you to find the motivation to keep pushing forward. If you or I want to achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves, then we need to make some changes in our lives, and we need to get unstuck.
Here are 11 helpful ways to get unstuck in life.
1. Remember your why.
Your why is ultimately what’s going to give you the motivation to keep moving forward when you feel like giving up. Everybody has a why, or also known as a purpose. The more you look back on that initial goal, the more motivation you get to keep moving forward.
2. Be willing to do the work.
If you want to be successful and achieve your goals, then you need to be willing to show up. Those who achieve success are the ones who are willing to show up when nobody else will, who work when others won’t, and who won’t quit when others will.
This doesn’t mean showing up and being willing to do the work 100% of the time. This means showing up and being willing to do the work all of the time and at whatever cost.
3. Reflect on your life.
Look back on your life and think about where you were a year ago, five years ago, or even ten years ago. See how much you have achieved since then? Now I don’t know about you, but for me, a lot has changed – and changed for the better.
When you are stuck, reflect on all that you have already achieved in life and just know that there isn’t anything that you can’t achieve – just as long as you are willing to believe in yourself.
4. Follow YOUR passion.
What gets us stuck the most is the fact that we aren’t doing what it is that we want to be doing in life. We are conforming to who it is that our family wants us to be, who society wants us to be, and not who we actually want to be.
The best part about your life is that you can be whatever it is that you want to be. The more you follow your heart and passion, the fewer chances you have of getting stuck in life.
5. Prioritize your wants first.
No, it’s not selfish to put your needs before the needs of others. If you want to be your best self for others, then you need to be your best self for you first.
I’m not saying to completely disregard everybody around you, but if somebody texts you in the middle of doing something that’s important to you, don’t text back or tell them that you will talk to them later. Be efficient with your time.
6. Plan your day and time-block.
A few ways to be efficient with your time is to plan your day out using a planner or breaking your day up into blocks. To give you an example of what time blocking is, just block out a certain portion of your day to get certain things done. Answer emails from 9 am to 10 am. Call clients from 10 am to 12 pm. Schedule meetings in between 12 pm to 2 pm. From 2 pm to 4 pm, work on your goals or what it is that you want to accomplish.
Time efficiency is going to be a critical element in your ability to keep pushing forward. Be as productive as possible and follow your schedule as closely as you can.
7. Keep something motivational around you at all times.
Personally, I have motivational quotes on my bedroom door and on my bathroom mirror. Every morning when I walk out of my room, I see these quotes. Every morning and night when I brush my teeth, I once again see these quotes.
Whether it’s by placing a post-it note on your desk or changing the wallpaper on your phone, surrounding yourself with as many things that will motivate you will help to keep you on track and moving forward.
8. Surround yourself with those that resemble who you want to become.
Just like you should surround yourself with what you want to become, you should also surround yourself with who you want to become. Your network is your net worth.
The more you surround yourself with others who have achieved the success that you wish to achieve, the more of their habits you pick up on. These habits have worked for others, so they should help and work for you as well.
9. Ask for help.
Speaking of help, quit being afraid to ask for it. Knowledge is power and it will help drive you forward when you feel stuck. If you want to achieve something that you haven’t yet achieved, then it doesn’t hurt to reach out to others and ask for help.
10. Be willing to fail.
The only way to get unstuck is to do something that you aren’t currently doing. It’s a lot easier said than done, but the next time that you find yourself stuck in life, embrace your fears, see them as stepping stones to achieving your dreams, and face them head-on.
Plain and simple, if you want to move forward in life, then you need to be willing to fail. It’s the only way to figure out if you are going in the right direction or not.
11. Learn to be grateful.
As I said earlier, stop and take a moment to reflect on how far you have come in life. Then, learn to be grateful for everything that has happened in your life. Not because it’s all been easy, but because everything that has happened in your life to this point has helped prepare you for what’s next.
Accept what has come, be grateful for what is, and hope for what’s to come. The happier and more grateful you are, the better things you attract from the world around you.
12. Hold nothing back.
The life that you are living is the one and only life you are going to get to live, so hold nothing back. When you get to the end of your life, you will never look back and regret the chances that you took, but you will always regret the chances you didn’t take.
Whatever you want in life, know that you have the strength to achieve it. It’s not going to be easy, but move forward with every little bit of strength you have and hold nothing back.
Being stuck in life isn’t fun. It can leave you feeling lost, unmotivated, and hopeless for what may come next.
These are some of the tips that I have used in my life to help me get unstuck, and I am confident that they will help you as well. Try some of them, see what works for you, and make the most out of every moment of your life.
