Daily Blog #245
It’s that weird time of the year where we all set out New Year’s resolutions. You know, promises to ourselves that this year, this year we will be a better person, live a healthier life, and do the things that we wish we would have done in years past.
We focus on changing the things that we don’t like about ourselves, making improvements on areas that we feel we need to improve on, and accomplish the dreams that we have always envisioned of achieving. But is it even worth it to set New Year’s resolutions?
I have never really been one to set New Year’s resolutions. Mainly because every time that I have set resolutions, I am like ninety-nine percent of the world, and never actually follow through on the resolutions that I set.
But this year is different, and this year I am determined to achieve my resolutions. But at the same time, I also want to help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions as well.
First, I want to ask you why it is that you wait for the new year to set resolutions for yourself in the first place? Why not just start the day that you think about improving, and implement the improvements into your life right then and there?
For me, the reasoning was always fear. Hey, I’m strong enough to admit it. I was always scared to be the person who would go on some major life change when everybody was looking. I mean, let’s face it, while I seeked and craved the attention of others, I also didn’t want to be ridiculed while for the changes that I was trying to make. Personally, I wanted the attention, just as long as it was not negative attention.
Now let me share something with you. Whatever it is that you want to accomplish in life, know that you are in control. Not your parents, not your best friends, not the people that you look up to, but you. If you want to make a change in your life, you are the only person that can make that change. People are going to think what they want about you no matter how hard you try to prove them otherwise. Infact, acknowledging the opinions of others will probably make matters worse.
But I know that isn’t what you want to hear, so let me share another piece of “advice” with you.
If you are similar to how I used to be, and absolutely hate the idea of negative attention, then setting New Year’s resolutions might be the best thing for you. I know that you are probably sick and tired of hearing all this talk about New Year’s resolution (don’t worry, I am too), but hear me out.
How many people do you know right now who are getting ready and setting their New Year’s resolutions? Probably more than not. And rightfully so. A new year means a new opportunity to forget our failures from the previous year, flip the calendar, and focus on achieving new goals that we set for ourselves. Now how many of us actually follow through and commit to our New Year’s resolutions is a completely different topic, but that is not the point.
The point is, if you are someone who fears what others think of you, then now is your time. Go after the things you want, and create the life that you have envisioned for so long. There truly is no better time to create a change in your life than the start of the new year. With all of the people that are making changes to improve their life, with all of the New Year’s resolutions being set, and with all of the improvements that everyone is focused on making, odds are that the people you fear of being judged by are not going to think any differently of you if you decide to follow the social norms and make a change yourself.
It is almost as if the start of the new year is the only acceptable time of the year to try and create some drastic change in life without having to worry about being judged. So take this as an opportunity to create the life for yourself that you have always wanted to live. Once the new year rolls around, unleash your inner greatness, and set yourself free.
Trust me, the hardest part to achieving any of your dreams in life is starting. Once you start, you have already accomplished the most difficult part to accomplishing anything in life. You will see how capable you are, all that you are worth, and how you were born to achieve your dreams. Believe in yourself, and never give up!
