Why You Should Focus on the Positive
My intent with this blog is to be completely open and honest with every single one of you. If there is one thing in life that I want to emphasize, it is to be who you are meant to be. For me, that means focusing on the positive things in life. Positivity has quickly become one of the key pillars in which I live my life around. Personally, I believe that the world lacks positivity, so I want to do my part in trying to make it better. Sometimes, it might seem like I am going overboard when it comes to being positive, but that is just who I am as an individual. Too much of my life was lived in a negative mindset, so to make up for lost time, I only focus on the positive.
I have talked about my personal story many times. You can see it here, here, or even here. In case you don’t feel like reading my other posts, let me give you a quick summary. I was a little hefty in high school. By hefty, I mean I looked like a little pumpkin. When I got to college, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. One way that I coped with my depression was through diet and exercise. Well, this quickly led to an eating disorder that spiraled out of control. Since I was focused solely on the gym and my diet for five years, I forgot how to interact with people. Yep, this led to social anxiety. This is basically my life in the last five years.
Recently, I wanted to make a change. This time, I wanted to make the change for me and for only me. Forget what people think of me, forget what they say about me, it was time to just start focusing on myself for a little. Over the course of the last few months, I have really been trying to get my life back together both mentally and physically. This means that I have been eating what I feel like, doing what I want, and living my life based on my own image. Do you want to know what I call these last few months? Me living my best life yet.
Living my best life yet basically sums up why I only focus on positivity. Since I have started to focus on only the good in life instead of the bad, I have been a much happier person. Pretty self-explanatory, right? But when you are in a negative mental state like I was, you don’t see it that way. At the time, I didn’t see my mindset as negative, I just assumed that it was who I had become. Sadly, I thought that it had become the new me.
Since changing my mentality and focusing on the positives in life, I have once again learned to love myself. Not only have I learned to love not only myself, but I have learned to love life and all of the blessings that come with it. I was so caught up in trying to please everyone around me, that my life had become nothing but filled with negativity. When you try and please everyone, you will never be able to see life in a positive way. People are always going to have different opinions and trying to conform to those opinions becomes overly exhausting. For me, it felt like no matter how hard I tried, I was never good enough.
Why should you focus on the positive things in life?
- When you focus on positivity, you will be happier. Seriously… You will be able to see the beauty in everything and everyone. You will stop comparing yourself to others, and you will learn to be the unique person that you were meant to be. Plus, you will see how fun and what a blessing life actually is.
- When you focus on positivity, you will be healthier. Your stress will be reduced, and your motivation for life will be at an all time high. You will want to embrace challenges instead of fearing them.
- When you focus on positivity, your relationships will be better and stronger. Yes, positivity attracts people to you. Let’s face it, when we are negative, we don’t want anyone around us and quite frankly, nobody wants to be around us.
- This one is my favorite. When you focus on positivity, you will be more confident in yourself. You will be able to wear a smile from ear to ear, stand taller, and speak with more confidence. You will trust your instinct, you will be able to speak loud and proud, and you will be more successful with anything you pursue in life.
Why not focus only on the positive? We have maybe 80 years to live on this planet. Is it worth spending any amount of time of that time focusing on the negatives? Absolutely not. Being positive and loving life can’t hurt us, it can actually only help us. Start by just smiling when you wake up. Start by telling yourself that today is going to be a good day and feel blessed to be alive. You don’t have to surround yourself with motivational speeches and motivational people like I do.. Just find whatever works for you and go with it. Find whatever helps you to focus on the positive.
