Feeling defeated is a natural part of life, we all experience defeat at some point or another on a daily basis. There are people who don’t seem to be bothered by the thought of defeat. Then there are people like me, people who absolutely despise defeat, people who fear defeat, and people who allow defeat to impact the decisions that they make in life.
During these times of defeat, though, it’s important to remember that you will be fine. There isn’t anything in life that can’t be figured out. No matter how big the issue, no matter how badly defeated you feel, know that there is always a solution to any problem that you face. As much hurt and pain as you may be feeling, remember to stay strong and to not give up.
I was listening to Oprah’s SuperSoul podcast featuring Marie Forleo on my way into work today. As a kid, Forleo remembers her mom being the one who always used to fix things around the house. Radios, the roof, the bathroom leaks, ect. She would come home from school and would find her mom working on a new project every day.
One day, Forleo asked her mom how she knew how to do some many different things that she had never done before. Now, mind you that this was the age before YouTube and google searches could provide an answer within the matter of milliseconds. Her mom’s response: “Nothing in life is that complicated. You can do whatever you set your mind to. You just roll up your sleeves, you get in there, and you do it. Everything is figureoutable.”
In sitting in my car and reflecting on the made-up word that I just heard, I realized that it was true. Everything in life is figureoutable. 99.9% of the time, the challenge that we encounter has a solution. The only difficulty that we experience, is finding the willpower and belief to seek that solution.
The difficulties of life.
One of the most challenging times in my life was when I was forced to move home from college during the middle of the semester due to my depression. I would wake up each and every single day with little hope. There were some days where I wouldn’t even leave my bed. I would attend very few of my classes, I wouldn’t spend time with friends, and finding enough strength just to leave my house consumed any of the energy that I had.
At the time, I didn’t feel as if I would make it past my depression. It was a battle that I didn’t know if I would ever overcome. But I would learn is that everything was figureoutable. There was a solution to all of my struggles, and there always had been. I just needed to dig deep and find the strength to search for that solution. As long as I kept my head up, and as long as I never gave up, I would be fine.
In reminiscing back on this period of time, yes, it absolutely sucked. What I learned, though, is that I am strong, I am loved, I am capable of overcoming any obstacle that tries to stand in my way, and I am worthy of anything and everything that I am willing to work for.
You will be fine.
Whatever you are experiencing, whether it be an illness, a mental illness, a broken heart, a job loss, or any other event that leaves you feeling defeated, know that you will be fine. Everything is figureoutable just as long as you never give up on trying to become the person that you want to be.
Now that you know you are going to be fine, there is only one thing left to do: keep moving forward. Keep moving forward because that is the only option that you have. You are going to experience more defeats along the way, but never forget that you will be fine.
How do I know all of this to be true? Because I have lived it, and because if I can face my defeats and come out fine on the other side, then you can do the same too!
As slow of a process as it might seem, place one foot in front of the other and just go. You may not be able to change the past, but you can always shape your future. No matter how much defeat you may be experiencing, remember that you will be fine in the long run and that everything is figureoutable.
