6 ways to help overcome everyday challenges in life
Every single day, we are going to face some type of stress and challenge that we are forced to overcome. It’s just part of being human. Whether it is getting a late start on the day, getting caught up in traffic, something not quite going right at work, or even a disagreement with loved ones, there is always going to be some type of obstacle that is going to want to slap us in the face. And if you are like me, you might even let these challenges impact your mood on life.
But why is it that when we face challenges and stress, our natural instinct is to become defensive? Hey, challenges are challenges. It’s not like they are going to kill us. I mean, if anything, odds are that the challenges that we face in life are only going to grow us into an even stronger individual than we already were.
Do you want to know how to deal with everyday challenges that surround us? Then I have two words for you: positive psychology. Life is never going to be all hunky dory, but if you can properly train your brain, the daily challenges that you are going to face in life might not seem as daunting as you originally thought. Here are six ways that help me to deal with everyday challenges in my own life.
Accept and let go
Look, the world is always going to want to throw some nasty curveballs. The sooner we realize that, the better. When we cave into stress, we tend to make rash and defensive decisions, we lose our better judgement, and we allow our emotions to blow out of proportion. Instead of getting angry or upset, take a minute for yourself. Stop what you are doing, focus on breathing, and find the happy place inside of your mind. You are not going to be able to change any past outcome, so just accept it, let go, and move on.
Prioritize the good
How much of life is actually negative? It doesn’t matter who you are, life is probably not nearly as bad as you might sometimes think. But for some reason, we just tend to solely focus on the negatives instead of focusing on the positives. When we focus solely on the negatives and disregard the positives, those thoughts are the only ones that will clutter our minds. This makes it seem that bad things are happening to us more often than they actually are.
So if you want to minimize the impact that the negatives can have on your life, learn to embrace the positives. Don’t just disregard the good that comes in life and expect it to always happen. Take a minute, appreciate the good, and reflect on how fortunate you actually are.
Realize the impact that you are trying to make
We all have the desire to grow in life and be the best possible version of ourselves. The next time that you allow yourself to get worked up, ask yourself if those emotions that you are wearing are making a positive impact in your life. Ask yourself if getting worked up over something that is probably a minor challenge is actually going to help you grow into the person that you want to become, or hinder your better self. Focus on the impact that you want to leave in the world, and focus on growing from the challenges that you are going to face.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
You are faced with challenges because you are strong enough to overcome these challenges. Everything that happens to us in life is simply helping to strengthen us for more difficult obstacles that we may face later in life. Know that you are stronger than any negative, you have the strength to overcome any obstacle, and you can achieve anything that you believe in.
Just be happy
This is the best piece of advice that you will ever get, but at the same time, it is also the hardest to achieve. Just be happy. I say this almost every single day, but this is truly your one opportunity to live. Don’t go wasting it by focusing on the negatives. Embrace the positives, create the positives, and just be happy. Why focus on being anything else?
Live to be free & follow your dreams
There are some challenges in life that we will simply never be able to control. But some of the challenges in life such as; work, living situations, lifestyle choices, health, ect. we have the ability to change. If we don’t like the challenges that stem from these areas in our life, then we have the freedom to make the change we want. We just need to be willing to make it.
It is easy for us to neglect the good in life when we are focused solely on the challenges that we face in life. I am not saying to run, or to hide from any challenge. Instead, just focus primarily on the challenges that are actually going to provide you value in life, and try your best to minimize the ones that won’t bring you any value. No matter what challenges you decide to face, believe in yourself, trust yourself, and live the life that you desire.
