Easy ways to make your day better
Whether it is waking up in the morning with a smile on your face, or holding the door open for a stranger, there are always things that we can do to help improve our mood. Happiness is not defined by having money or the larger things in life. Happiness is composed of the little things in life. Here are 9 easy ways to make your day better.
Wake up in the morning and think about the positive
The best thing that we can do is to wake up and right away tell ourselves that today is going to be an awesome day. Even though we don’t know what the day holds, getting in the right mindset will help to diminish the effects of any negative thoughts from the past. It will also put you in a good mood to start the day, and will set the tone for the rest of the day.
Avoid the snooze button
The more we hit the snooze button, the longer it takes us to get moving with our days. The longer it takes us to get moving, the less time we have for everything else. Research shows that by hitting the snooze button, you might actually feel more tired and irritable. So avoid the snooze button, get up right away, and get moving with your day.
Plan your day out
Make a to do list and plan out your day. We are most productive when we know what we have to do for the day and when we have to do it by. To do lists will help to us to avoid from feeling rushed throughout the day. The more we know what we have planned, the easier it is to be organized and focused on the present moment.
Go out of your way for others
Mark Twain said it best, “The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” When we go out of our way to help others, we feel a sense of accomplishment and meaningfulness. This will help bring a smile to not only our face, but to someone else’s face as well. You will be helping others while helping yourself at the same time. Nothing is better than that.
Put your head high
Holding your head high will give you an immediate boost of confidence. Not only will you be more confident in your decision, you will also be happier. See, it is when we are not confident that we become sad and question ourselves. If you keep your head high, you will have assurance in the decisions that you are making, and that will directly increase your mood.
Share your affection with those closest to you
Love is what bring us closer to others and to ourselves. When we share our affection with others, we feel a sense of comfort, a sense of comfort that can help to wipe away any negative emotions. If you have to call someone to share your love, do so. Studies show that any type of social interaction (other than social media) is good for our wellbeing and mood.
Communicate and socialize with others
Do something and get out with either friends or family. Being around the right people can help to make you laugh, increase your energy, and brighten your day. Go to the movies or go out to eat with friends. Like I said in the previous point, any type of social interaction is better than nothing. It also helps to take your mind off of things that might be bothering you.
Listen to music or read a book
Listening to music or reading a book can help to open up your imagination. It can also help to increase your mood and distract you from any stressors. These are two activities that will help to calm you down and drown out any external emotions. Plus, reading makes you smarter and more successful.
Stay off of social media
When we are feeling down, social media is the worst place to be. Our world is full of competition and the majority of this competition is displayed on social media. Even if you are in a good mood, you should limit your time on social media. Why? Because people only post the highs and not the lows. This leads us to believe that others have perfect lives and that we need to strive to make ours perfect as well. When you are not comparing ourselves to others, you will be happier with yourself and with your decisions.
Get a good night sleep
You don’t have to tell me twice, I freaking love sleep. Make sure that you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Just like your body, your brains also needs a rest to fully recharge. When you get a good night sleep, you will wake up in a much better mood and will instantly feel ready to take on any challenges that the day might bring.
These are just a few tips that we can use to help improve our overall mood. There are many other ways that you can help turn any bad day into a good day, it just depends on the individual. Once you find something that helps to increase your mood, keep it and use it for future occurrences. By implementing these easy tactics, you are going to be able to shake off any bad day.
