First and foremost, yes, I am a 26-year-old man and made a vision board. No, I feel absolutely zero shame in admitting that.
What can I say, I’m a person who wants to achieve my dreams and you better believe I am going to do anything and everything that’s going to help get me there.
Vision boards are great for many reasons.
For me, they help to remind me of what my goals and dreams are. I have a lot of goals and dreams, and admittingly, I will sometimes forget about some of them if I do not have them laid out in front of me.
Also, vision boards can be a great way to help keep you motivated. My vision board is right by the door in my bedroom. Each morning as I leave my room, I am reminded of what my goals and dreams are. Part of me feels that even if I don’t consciously pay attention to it, it is instilled into my subconscious mind so that as I go about my day, my actions will be reflective of my goals.
How Do You Make A Vision Board
Really there is no right or wrong way to create a vision board. You just have to find what’s going to work best for you, and what’s going to get you closer towards achieving your goals.
Starting out, grab a poster board or a big piece of paper. Just make sure that it is something big enough to where you aren’t going to lose it in the mix of all your other papers.
Next, grab a few magazines and scroll through the pages. Cut out any big and bold words that really resonate with you, as well as pictures of things that you want or of how you want your life to look.
If you have a car magazine, cut out your dream car. If you have a home managinze, cut out a picture of your dream home. If you have a motivational magazine, cut out some images of uplifting words or inspiring quotes.
I told you, there really is no right or wrong way to do this.
To give you an example, here’s what mine looks like…
As you can see, it’s a mixture of words and pictures. Obviously the words speak for themselves, but I want to focus on the pictures and what they represent:
Top right – a picture of New York City that says to dream big. Well, NYC is the city of dreams, right?! It’s also one of my favorite cities. It’s where people go to turn their dreams into their realities, and it shows that if you want something enough, you are capable of making it happen no matter what it might cost.
Top middle – Boston… This is my favorite city! If I could move to any city in the world, it would be Boston. That’s why I have it on my vision board. I want to be reminded daily of my goal to be able to live in Boston someday. I don’t know how or when, but what I do know is that I will live there.
Bottom left – a picture of the globe. Eventually, I would love to work while being able to travel the world. I don’t want to just be stuck living in one place, I want to live everywhere, embrace all of the beauty that is in this world, and see every country. There is a sense of freedom that I get when I am traveling, and it’s one that I want to feel daily.
Bottom middle – an image of a person standing on a mountain with the words “I Believe In Me” above it. It’s just a reminder that there isn’t any mountain too high to overcome. As long as I believe in me, there isn’t anything I can’t achieve.
How Has A Vision Board Impacted My Life
Well, for starters, I believe in myself more than ever before. With each and every single day that passes, I am only finding more confidence in my abilities and more love for who I already am as a person. Part of this is due to the fact that I constantly remind myself of who I want to become, and of the dreams that I want to achieve.
Since creating this vision board, I have traveled more than I have in my entire life. I have gone and visited friends across the country, took a vacation out of the country, and am working remotely more than 2,000 miles away from my home. Just over a year ago, I wouldn’t have done any of this.
Part of me still fears breaking out of my comfort zone, but each and every time I find the strength to take that leap, I realize that it’s never as bad as I envisioned it to be. Having a vision board is one of the things that has helped me to take more leaps than before. I see my goals, I envision myself achieving them, and I know the only thing that’s stopping me from actually doing so is me.
Before You Go
Have some fun with it. This is your life and your dreams to achieve. There is no right or wrong dream to desire, just the one that is going to leave you feeling fulfilled.
One of the best and easiest ways to keep yourself on track to achieve your dreams is to create a vision board. Not everybody is going to agree with this or think that a vision board is the most effective way to achieve your dreams, but what do you have to lose? The worst thing that could happen is that it doesn’t work for you. The best thing – living the life of your dreams.
