Everybody wants to change. It seems like no matter what we have, we always want something different. Maybe you are living a boring life and have the desire for a more adventurous life – a life of spontaneous decision making, and a life with very little commitment. Or maybe your life is too adventurous and you crave for more simplicity.
Perhaps you want to start exercising to lose a little weight. Or maybe you are like me and want to ease up on the exercising to even put a little bit of weight back on.
Needless to say, it doesn’t matter what the example is, I think that we can all agree that there is very little in our lives that we are ever completely satisfied with. It’s just how humans are. We always want bigger and better than what we already have.
So how do you change? How to do you from a life of imaging the change that you wish to see, to a life of living that change? Here is your answer. The number one way to completely change your life is to go from wanting to deciding. It’s a pretty sophisticated answer, right?!
It’s actually a pretty simple answer that is often overlooked. If you want something that you haven’t had, including being able to completely change your life, then you need to go from wanting to deciding. You need to be willing to break out of your comfort zone and do something that you have never done before.
While it’s good to think about the changes that you wish to see, thinking along is not going to magically bring these changes into your life. But deciding will. Wanting something is the same as only thinking about that something. You imagine what your life would be like with that change, you think of all of the benefits that change would provide, and you think about how much better your life would be with that change.
I am not saying that thinking or envisioning change in your mind is a bad thing to do. It’s actually pretty important when implementing change. But at the same time, it is also lacking something. It is lacking the action that you need to be willing to take in order to actually achieve the change that you wish to see.
Deciding, well deciding provides action. To decide something is to tell yourself that you will do whatever it takes to create the change that you wish to see. Simply put, you go from wanting the change, to putting together an action plan that will help to make this change become your reality.
It’s also important to know that deciding to change and putting together a course of action does not mean that the change itself is going to be easy to achieve. In fact, I’d be willing to bet my life that you will want to quit or give up on more than one occasion. It’s normal to feel doubt because any change means that you are doing something that is out of your comfort zone. To be willing to break out of your comfort zone is going to create fear. And fear is the number one enemy to any and all success.
Look, you can’t go out and expect to win a marathon in the first mile. You need to take small steps towards making it to mile two, mile three, miles four, and so on. Only once you get to mile 26.19 (one step away from the finish line) can you expect to win the race.
The same goes for seeking any change that you wish to see. Depending on how significant the change is, it could be a long, slow, and grueling process. It could take a month, a year, a decade, or even a lifetime. You and I simply can’t control time, so don’t waste your energy trying to pinpoint exactly when something will become your reality.
If you want to change badly enough, you just need to follow the process and work as hard as you can to make that change happen despite how long it may take. You need to go from wanting to deciding and give it everything that you got.
