Daily Blog #263
I have learned a lot since embarking on this journey of personal development, self-improvement, quest for a better and happier life, or whatever other defining name you can come up with. Things from learning how to love myself again, to believing in and following my dreams, all the way to simply finding happiness in life.
But I have also learned about a lot more than just myself. I have learned a lot about the world that we live in, the importance of having a positive mindset, and the impact that our surroundings can have on the decisions that we make in life.
It is often said that your network is your net worth.
What does it mean for your network to become your net worth? It means that the people you find yourself spending the most time with are going to be the ones that you are the most like. It means that the environment that you put yourself in is going to be the one that resembles you the best. And it ultimately means that you will become what you see yourself becoming.
Let’s say for instance that you spend the majority of your time with five people who are incredibly negative in life. No matter how hard you try to cheer them up, nothing seems to work. After spending enough time with these individuals, you too will be filled with nothing but negativity. Their take on life will ultimately impact your take on life.
If you want to become a millionaire, then you aren’t going to be spending a lot of your time with people who complain about how little money they make and how life isn’t fair while they sit and watch a reruns for the tenth time. No, if you want to become a millionaire then you are going to surround yourself with other millionaires. Why? Because it is those individuals that are going to help raise your energy to become successful and those individuals who are going to push you to become your best self.
Maybe it’s vice versa. Maybe you are a millionaire who has found yourself with a friend group full of millionaires who want even more money while you long for the days of finding more simplicity. You shouldn’t want to spend more time with those individuals. You should want to distance yourself, because the things that they want in their life are not bringing you closer to the life that you have envisioned for yourself.
Please know that while I use these examples, I am not judging anybody. Whatever you want to do in life and however you decide to live your life is yours, and only your choice. I am using these examples to point out the fact that it doesn’t matter what anybody seeks in life, whether if be happiness, freedom, money, or success, who we surround ourselves with the most is going to directly impact how we live our lives.
But it is more than just the people and the environment around you, it is you as well. The habits that we have, the actions that we take, the mood that we allow ourselves to remain in, all of these things determine how we live our life. If you allow yourself to remain in a bad mood, then don’t expect happiness to come your way. If you allow yourself to live an ordinary life, then don’t expect an extraordinary one to come knocking. Whatever life you want to live, you need to be willing to live it.
I want to challenge you. A few times a day, I want to challenge you to stop what you are doing, and ask yourself if what you are doing is bring you closer to your dreams, or pushing you away. If it is bring you closer, then keep doing it. But if what you are doing is not benefiting you, then stop doing it immediately. Change your thinking, reflect on your goals, and start doing something that is going to bring you closer to accomplishing your dreams.
This all sounds so basic, I know, but it’s true. If your dreams bring you happiness, and if you want to accomplish every single one of your dreams, then you need to surround yourself with the things that you want to become. Surround yourself with like-minded people, surround yourself with the happiness that you want in your life, and put yourself in a place that is going to help bring you the life that you want to live.
You are not going to be able to control the world around you, but you can control the world that you allow yourself to be in. So do the things that make you happy, surround yourself with what you want to become, and choose your surroundings wisely.
