Daily Blog #312
I woke up yesterday in severe pain. My head was pounding as if it was being thrown into a wall, my mouth felt as if it was being stabbed by a pitchfork every time I opened it, and my patience for the pain was slowly running out. It got to the point where I tried to eat a banana and had to cut it into pieces just to avoid the pain of opening my mouth too much. Thank you wisdom teeth.
After several hours of sitting in a dentist chair, a few sugar tablets because I nearly fainted (I don’t do well with shots), and two wisdom teeth removed, I was finally able to make it home with help from my sister. The best part yet, the doctor gave me an excuse slip for work.
For the record, I used to hate missing work. The feeling that I am falling behind and the feeling of getting into work the next day having to play catch-up just don’t sit well with me. But recently my mindset has shifted. While work used to be the number one priority in my young life, it has since taken far less precedence since I started to focus on my well-being.
I am not going to lie, I could have gone to work today. Would it have been fun with the amount of pain that I am in? No. Could I have gone and met the expectations? Yes. But it just didn’t sound enjoyable. Instead, I wanted to live my dream for a day. I decided to take a vacation day to focus on something that now means more to me than work: myself.
Today, even if it is just for a day, I am living exactly how I dream of spending the majority of my life. I woke up, went out and grabbed enough coffee for a week, all of which I will probably drink in a few hours, and now I am sitting with my feet up while writing my thoughts. How in the world could this day get any better? Aside from the fact that I have massive amounts of pain meds, I don’t think it could.
Envision yourself living your dreams.
One of the best things that we can do to help turn our dreams into our reality is to envision ourselves actually living our dreams. Focus on not only what you dream of achieving, but envision yourself actually living that life. Picture how your life will look when you DO achieve your dreams and start putting yourself in an environment that is going to allow you to succeed.
Maybe your dream is to become a writer. If so, then start putting yourself in the environment that you envision in your mind. If that means sitting in a coffee shop for hours and writing novels on napkins like J.K. Rowling, do it. If you envision your book in a Barnes & Nobel, walk into a Barnes & Nobel and find the spot where your book will soon be.
If your dream is to own a house in Beverly Hills, drive through the neighborhoods and pick out the house that you will someday buy. Envision yourself waking up every morning in that house while living the life that you dream of living. Envision the color that you are going to paint it, envision the big screen TV that you are going to put in the kitchen because why not, and just make it yours.
Where our dreams go wrong.
One of the biggest reasons that we don’t achieve the things that we want to achieve is because we are not specific enough on how we actually want our lives to look. While it’s good to dream, be willing to get specific on what you actually want. Picture every last detail of what it looks like living your dreams, and start piecing that picture together. Once you get specific on what your dream looks like, only then will you start to be able to actually manifest that dream.
A full day ahead.
So even if it is just for one day, today I am living exactly the life that I dream of living. I dream of being able to write from anywhere in the world with a good book by my side, and not having to stress about what is going to come next in my life. I just want to be present while living in the moment. And today, I am living that dream.
Everybody starts from somewhere.
There is no right or wrong dream to have in your life. Whatever you want to do with your life, do it. This is the one and only life that you are going to get to live. Start envisioning every fine detail of your dreams, and start filling your life with what your dreams look like. No matter how far away you are from achieving your dreams, remember that everybody starts from somewhere. But the only way that you will ever know what you are truly capable of achieving, is if you just start.
