Society is hurting right now. As a whole, we are looking for a quick fix to bring the world back to some form of normality.
Protests are not only breaking out over the country, but they are also breaking out all across the world in response to social injustice and police brutality.
Unemployment numbers in the US are reaching nearly 20% – an amount that the country has not seen since the great depression.
On top of all of this, we are in the midst of a global pandemic that has taken over 400,000 lives.
Not really the spark of motivation and hope you were probably looking for, but I promise, it’s only upwards from here.
Be The Change You Wish To See
Many individuals want to know what they can do during these times to make a difference. What can they do to better the lives of those around them? What can they do to help bring some sense of normality back into the world?
As painful as it may be, the world is never going to be the same. With any major event in the past, the world has evolved, and it will continue to do so.
That doesn’t mean you can’t make a change in it. That doesn’t mean you can’t positively impact the lives of others on a daily basis. In fact, influencing others may now be easier to do than ever before – especially with social media.
So, how do you go about creating change in a world that is already experiencing constant amounts of change? By being the change you wish to see. Be the change you wish to see in the world, make your voice known, and stand up for your beliefs. That’s how you are going to create change.
Changing The World One Day At A Time
As I am writing this, I am sitting here on June 9th, 2020 watching the funeral of George Floyd – the man who was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer.
As hard as it is to come to terms with, social injustice is something that’s been going on for centuries here in America. The year is 2020 and it’s still a major issue in our society. But things are finally starting to change.
People are finding their voices. All races are coming together as one and putting an end to something that should have never started. Change within our society is long overdue, but change is coming.
No change is instantaneous. We aren’t going to wake up one day having solved all of our personal problems. If that was the case, you would already be your best self, social injustice would no longer be an issue, and we would have had a vaccine for COVID-19 the moment somebody became infected.
But that’s not how change works. Change is progressive. Change occurs over the course of time. Change is what we need to be willing to fight for on a daily basis until we see it through. Whatever it is you are wanting to change, please, by all means, be the change you wish to see but be in it to see it through or not at all.
Change Starts With You
Gandhi once said: “If we change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him.”
Let that sink in for a moment and fully digest the words of one of the wisest men to ever set foot on this earth.
The world is constantly changing. As we change as individuals on a daily basis, the world changes along with us. As you begin to change, the attitude of the world will only follow. Think about the Law of Attraction and how like attracts like. Whatever change you seek and act upon, the world will help draw resources towards you to act upon that change whether it’s in the form of people, knowledge, or any other resource.
As we see from Gandhi and other great leaders who have created worldwide movements such as Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, and so many more, change starts with one person, and it starts with one issue they wish to change.
You have the ability to be that change as well. These great leaders weren’t born with any special powers. They weren’t born any differently than you or me. The reason they are some of the most influential leaders of all time is because they saw what needed to be changed and they fought for the change they wished to see.
Follow in their footsteps and be the change you wish to see. You are capable of greatness. You just need to believe in yourself and fight for what you believe in.
Before You Go
As I am watching the funeral of a man who was murdered by police, I want to encourage you to take a stand against racism, against sexism, against agism, and against any inequality. It’s time that we all come together to be the change we wish to see and start seeing the world as beautiful for all of its’ differences.
