“We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.” -Vince Lombardi.
What are some of the goals that you want to accomplish in your life? Maybe you have a goal of making a million dollars a year, getting into either Harvard or MIT, being the next New York Times bestselling author, or maybe you want to overcome your fear of heights and want to experience the thrill of jumping out of a plane 15,000 feet above the ground.
Now ask yourself why you are not working to achieve these goals. Why are you not working your tail off to make a million dollars, studying as hard as you can to get into Harvard or MIT, writing that book to become the next New York Times best selling author, or signing up to skydive? Is it because you aren’t willing to work for these goals? Or is it because you think these goals are impossible to achieve?
I have some news for you. Nothing is impossible unless you allow it to be. Now as corny as it may sound, even the word impossible says “i’m possible.” Look at every one of your dreams and think about how many other individuals have achieved those dreams before. Those individuals are not better than you, they haven’t had everything handed to them, and the world does not favor them over you.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you and I are not important enough for the world to prevent us from succeeding. Not only are you and I not important enough, but nobody is important enough for the world to stop them from succeeding. The only thing that will ever stop us from succeeding, is our beliefs towards our own individual success.
This isn’t to say that you aren’t going to be doubted by others, or even experience doubt in your own mind. If you aren’t experiencing some sense of doubt everyday, then you are not pushing yourself hard enough. It’s okay to wonder if you are on the right path. It’s okay to question yourself and to ask yourself if what you are doing if what you are supposed to be doing. The only thing that is never okay to do, is to give up.
When you experience doubt either from others, or from your own mind, you have one of two options. You can listen to these doubts that are telling you that you do not have what it takes to make a million dollars, to get into Harvard or MIT, or to achieve any other dream that you mind can possibly imagine. But what good is this ever going to do for you?
The other option is to go against the current, and say “Watch me.” Everytime that somebody tells you that you don’t have what it takes to achieve success, or that you will not amount to anything, or even when your own mind thinks these same thoughts, say to yourself, “Watch me.” Go against all of the negative thoughts that you may be experiencing, work harder than you have ever worked in your entire life, and never give up on your dreams.
The thing about giving up, is that we never know how close we are. Imagine if James Dyson quit after he built 5,125 consecutive prototypes that all failed. Imagine if he didn’t build prototype number 5,126. There would not be the Dyson company that we all know today.
What I’m saying is that you never know when success is going to find you. It can be a hundred attempts after you were to quit, a thousand attempts, or it could even be the next attempt. But if you decide to give up on yourself and what you are capable of achieving, you are never going to know.
Don’t believe any of this mumbo jumbo, take my own life for example. Depressed, miserable, scared. Yes, I did give up on some of my other dreams in life, but what I was not willing to give up on was my individual happiness.
Every single day, I embrace the suck of proving my own doubts wrong, try to manage any negativity that is thrown my way, and focus on living the best life that I can. It hasn’t always easy, but no matter how hard the going has gotten, I have not given up. Because I have not given up on my own happiness, I am now that happiest that I have ever been in life, and I love the life that I am living more than I ever have.
Anything is possible as long as you are willing to believe in yourself, and as long as you follow your dreams. Success can either be a day away, or years away. But one thing is for certain, the minute you quit on yourself, you will never know how close you were. So be relentless. Be relentless, never give up on the dreams that you are trying to achieve, and you will then become unstoppable.
