Weekly Reflection: Appreciate Your Blessings
Andy Williams was right, this really is the most wonderful time of the year.
This past week has yet again been nothing but a gift. Even after Thanksgiving, I can’t help but to be thankful, and appreciate all of the blessings that consume my daily life. When I say blessings, I am talking about every moment whether it is a high and low, every gift, every person that I have met, and every emotion that I have ever felt.
It might sound lame, dumb, weird, or any other word that you can think of, but everything that has happened to me so far in my life, has helped to get me where I am today. And for that, I am grateful. Right now, I am simply the happiest that I have ever been in life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I like to start every new week by reflecting on the past week, and then creating a goal for the new week. Nothing too crazy, just a small goal that gives me something to focus on.
But this time, I want to do something a little different. I still want to set a goal and challenge myself, but I also want to challenge you as well. I want to challenge you to show more gratitude and kindness to your life, and to the lives around you. And I also want to challenge you to appreciate your blessings more. Think you are up for it?
Often times, we don’t appreciate the blessings that already fill our lives. When we get something, sure, we may recognize it for a short amount of time. But after that time is over, we will probably move on to whatever the next thing is that we desire in life. It is like this constant cycle of wanting what we don’t have, and almost disregarding the amazing blessings that we already do have.
See, the holidays are all about reflecting on all that we have, being grateful for all that we are blessed with, and spending time with the people that mean the most to us. The simple truth is that we are all blessed beyond belief, but our wants and desires sometimes leave us blinded from what actually matters.
Your health, your family, your friends, your home, your job, food, water, ect. These are just a few of the blessings that many of us are privileged enough to have. But because we want the next latest and greatest smartphone, a new tablet, or some other materialistic item, these are the blessings that we sometimes overlook.
Without any of these blessings, do you think that you would be where you are today? Probably not.
What I am getting at, is that we simply need to appreciate all that we are blessed with. Focus on what you have instead of focusing on what it is that you don’t have if you want to be happy in life. Being happy doesn’t mean that you have it all, it means that you appreciate everything that you have.
So take some time during this next week, and appreciate everything that you have. Call your family and tell them how much you appreciate them. Send a text to your friends letting them know how much you appreciate them. And don’t forget to appreciate yourself. Do something nice for somebody else, and do something nice for yourself.
Life is too short to focus on the things that are missing from your life. Instead of focusing on what is missing, appreciate what you already have. Appreciate your blessings, fill your heart with happiness, and always live the best life that you can live.
