Daily Blog #361
All that I want is all that I will have. Trust me, I mean this in the most nonegotistical way possible. I don’t believe that I am better than any other human to ever live, because I know that I am not. But what I do believe, is that I will have everything in which I want in life. And because I believe that I will have everything in which I want, I know that I will have it.
Before you go saying that I sound like the most spoiled or snobbiest person that you have ever come across, hear me out.
One of my favorite podcasters (Rob Dial) has been talking about a book that he thinks everybody should read. The book is Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill.
In the first few pages, the book talks about a secret that will literally change your life. A secret that can’t be put into words, but rather, a secret that the reader has to come across. The secret to growing rich is said over a thousand times in the book, but the reader has to come across it on their own time. It is so powerful that once the reader comes across it, they will know.
Last night I picked up the book for the very first time trying to find the secret to growing rich. I don’t just have the desire to be rich in regards to money, but I also want to be rich with life experiences and with self-love.
I scoured the first ten pages of the book trying to find the secret. Overthinking what it was, I failed to realize that the secret itself was pretty obvious. In fact, you have heard it thousands of times in your life as well. Sometimes, it just takes a specific example of it being applied to somebody else’s life for it to truly click with you.
Well, that’s what happened to me.
In a passage talking about Edwin C. Barnes, who would become a business associate to Thomas Edison, Edison said “I gave him the opportunity he asked for, because I saw he had made up his mind to stand by until he succeeded.”
I’m not going to ruin the book for you by saying anything more, also because I haven’t read any more of it, but this is the line that held the secret for me. The secret to growing rich is going to be thought of slightly differently for everybody, but no matter how it is thought of, the decisive factor is always you.
I saw the passage, and I knew that I had found the secret. I dropped the book out of excitement, grabbed a post-it note and a sharpie, and wrote on the note “Make up your mind that you will succeed.” Immediately, I took the post-it note and some tape into my bathroom, and I taped it to my vanity mirror.
See, Hill talks about how he studied 250 individuals who have all found the secret. Individuals that include former presidents and names such as Charles Schwab, John D. Rockefeller, and Thomas Edison as well. What’s one thing that they all have in common? They all determined their own success before they found the success itself.
It made me realize that the secret to growing rich has been right in front of me all my life.
If I want to grow rich, then I need to think that I will grow rich. Moreso, I need to act as though I deserve to grow rich in whatever way that means. Whether it is money, happiness, freedom, life experiences, if I want to be rich in any of those categories, then only I have the power to do so.
With that, I have determined my own success. I have determined that all that I want is all that I will have. Again, not in a way where I believe that I deserve more than anybody else, but in a way that I believe I deserve to have everything that I want out of my life. Because I have determined my own success, I know that I will achieve it, and I know that only I have the power to do so.
Right now, I wish I could explain to you how I felt. After years of being told that I have the power to grow rich, I admit that I failed to realize how accurate that statement was. I do have the power to grow rich, and because I want to grow rich, I will do so.
Now, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be roadblocks that will pop up in my life. This means that right now, I have my eyes set on a finish line, my vision is narrowed on that finish line, and all of those roadblocks will be deflected. Mark my words on that.
I look back on the fact of how powerful I truly am, and I now see it.
Nearly one year ago I was so miserable in my head that I knew I needed a change. I set my focus on changing my mindset and start blogging every single day for at least one full year. Here we are 350 days later about to achieve that goal and feeling happier than I have ever felt in my life. It’s not because I have any more power than the rest of the world, but it’s because I set my focus on a goal and thus, I will soon achieve that goal.
When I wanted to grow rich with money, I did so through working hard. I saved every penny for years, and while I wouldn’t do that again (at least to that extent), Just like with blogging, I had drawn up the finish line in my mind, and I reached it through hard work and a narrowed focus. Without knowing how I had achieved it, I failed to realize that it was because I was more powerful than I knew.
I see this secret and it excites me for what’s ahead.
My happiness, my well-being, my desire to positively impact the world, and even my blog. I want to grow rich in each of these categories, and because I want to do so, I know that I will. And I want to help you do the same!
Together, we are going to think and grow rich because we deserve to. We deserve to achieve each and every single one of our wildest dreams because we are willing to work for these dreams until the day we die. It won’t be easy, but with our eyes on the prize, there isn’t anything that we won’t achieve.
