Tips to help gain mental clarity
Do you ever feel like your mind is full of so many random thoughts to the point where it just might explode? Are there too many thoughts cluttering your mind that are preventing you from thinking clearly? Does it feel like there is a fog that is blocking out every ray of light, and every positive thought that you try to bring into your mind?
Mental clarity can sometimes be difficult for all of us to find. Especially when we are stressed. In a world that is constantly on the move, it is easy to become distracted and forget about the important things in our lives. But the good news is that there are some things that we can do in our daily life to help bring clarity back. Here are 6 ways that have helped me to gain mental clarity in my life, and what I think might work for you as well.
I can’t say that meditation is the greatest thing in the world, nor has it changed my life. Simply due to the fact that I have just started practicing it. But even in the short amount of time that I have been doing so, I have honestly felt more relaxed, more refreshed, and most importantly, relieved of added stress.
Meditation is there to help us focus on our breathing, focus on the thoughts that are important to us, and to shut out the distractions that consume the majority of our thoughts. It is about being in the present moment, and being mindful in the space, and state that you are in.
Our minds can only handle so much at a time. When we continuously feed our minds clutter, just like anything else, they will eventually overload and crash. With meditation, I have been able to release some of that clutter, and that is the reason why meditation is becoming apart of my daily routine. Plus, I just like having that extra “me” time.
Let go of unneeded belongings.
As we go through life, a lot of us have the tendency to hold on to a lot of our belongings. So much so, that we oftentimes don’t know what is important to us, and what we can live without.
I am guilty of it as well.
There seems to be this idea that amount to more in life with the more belongings that we have. But without removing some of the belongings that surround us, once again, all of that clutter eventually consumes our mind. We become trapped to the point where it seems like we can’t escape. The simple truth is that clutter is the enemy of clarity. So let go of some of it if you know that you can live without it.
Set goals for yourself.
One of the reasons that we lack clarity in life is because we don’t know what to focus on. How do we know what road to follow if there are no directions? When we set goals for ourselves, we have a better understanding of what it is that we want to accomplish. We are more likely to stay committed and follow through when we set out specific goals.
Ask yourself what are some things that you want to accomplish in life. It doesn’t matter how big or small the goal might be, just make sure that it is meaningful to you. Then, just start it. Create a plan to accomplish your goals in a time frame that is suitable for you.
Write down your thoughts.
Brain dump time… There are so many thoughts that are going on in your head at every given moment. You need to do this, you need to do that. You need to be at this place, at this time, at this location. That last sentence was a mess… just like the unorganized thoughts in your mind.
Write your thoughts down, have a to-do list, carry a planner. The more organized that you remain, the easier it is going to be to keep track of your thoughts. You are going to feel less stressed about what you need to get done, and your mind will be more clear.
Focus on what matters to you.
Your mind will never be clear if you are not focusing on what matters to you. It will only be consumed with thoughts and ideas that quite truthfully, you just don’t give a shit about. Pardon the language, but we all know it’s true.
Focus on what matters to you and what it is that you want to accomplish. Remember that this is your one chance at life, so follow your dreams, and live for what makes you happy in life.
Sleep and relax.
This is the biggest reason that my mind becomes cluttered, and the reason I think a lot of people lack clarity. Simply because we are tired. Our minds have not had the ability to relax, and they have gone into overdrive mode.
Our minds are like our bodies. If we want them to grow, we need to fuel them properly, exercise them regularly, and give them time to rest and rebuild. Try to do your best to give your mind 7-8 hours of sleep per night so that you can wake up tomorrow feeling refreshed and energized.
These are just some of the ways that I have been able to gain mental clarity in my life. Are there more ways than just these six? Absolutely. Every single day is different, and it is important that we try to adapt to what is working on any given day.
So if you want more clarity in your life, and have not tried one of these methods, I highly recommend doing so. They have helped me, and I believe that they will help you as well. But remember, the most important thing is to take time for yourself, be proud of the fine individual that you are, and to follow your dreams.
