That’s right, I am trying to put every last one of my fears behind me and am announcing that I started a YouTube channel.
For some, starting a youtube channel and talking to a camera may not be all that difficult, but for me, there was just something about it that was challenging. It’s like every time I tried turning on a camera in the past, I would become shy and start to stutter.
Strange for somebody who talks about and publicizes their life on a daily basis, but there is something different about writing out your thoughts as opposed to recording them.
But, as I said, I am trying to move past that.
With that being said, here is my YouTube channel…
Now I wanted to do something a little bit different with my first video (well, one of my first videos). I want to share with you the 5 tips that I am going to be using to hopefully grow my YouTube channel.
My thinking is this: every video that talks about growing a YouTube channel is from somebody who has already grown a successful YouTube channel. While there isn’t anything wrong with that, it’s kind of like a millionaire telling you what to do to make a million dollars – it’s easy for them to talk about once they have achieved their mark, but what about the process? How did they start out? What was their main focus? I guarantee you it’s different than what they talk about once they have reached a certain level of success.
That’s what I want to do differently. Instead of getting to a certain mark and saying “these are the tips I used to get here,” I want to share with you tips that I am going to be implementing from the beginning so that when I do grow a successful YouTube channel, people can look back and follow this blueprint.
Make sense? Okay, good. Now let’s get into it.
5 Tips For How To Start & Grow Your YouTube Channel From Scratch In 2020
1. Pick a niche
Just like with writing, or anything for that matter, it’s important to pick a niche and stay in that nice. A niche is an audience you are trying to target.
For example, my niche with this blog and my YouTube channel is personal development and self-improvement. That’s what I focus on. While there I times where I may stray off into different niches, I try to make it all relate back to the personal development and self-improvement niche. That’s my focus because that’s what I am passionate about and that’s what I know best.
Everybody is going to have a different specialty and focus. Your main objective should just be to do what’s enjoyable for you, to focus on what you already know, and being able to provide value to the audience you are trying to reach.
2. Create a schedule.
When growing a YouTube channel, create a schedule that you are going to follow. What I mean by this is that you shouldn’t just be posting videos whenever you feel like it. Have a set day and a set time in which you are going to post.
With my blog, I have a set schedule of every day at 8 a.m. CST. That’s when my posts are going to go public. Any consistent reader will know that if they look at my website at 8 a.m., they can expect a new post.
The same goes for YouTube. No, it doesn’t need to be daily. Maybe it’s once a week or every other week. The point is to let your audience know what that schedule looks like and when they can expect to see something new. Not only will they come back at that time, but it will also help to keep you motivated to create content to have published at that time. It’s a win-win.
3. Do your keyword research.
Keyword research is crucial for the YouTube algorithm. It’s completely different than Google SEO or Pinterest SEO. YouTube is a completely different search engine that you need to master if you want to optimize your channel.
In case you are just starting out and have no idea what SEO is, do this – go to your favorite YouTube channel and pick a video. Copy the title of that video and enter it into the search bar. All of those suggestions that come up beneath it are additional keywords you can target.
Now, if that YouTube channel has a lot of subscribers, there’s a good chance that other smaller channels are going to be doing the same thing you are and trying to rank for that keyword. The key is to do something different that is going to separate you from everybody else.
4. Be yourself
If you look at every successful YouTuber – or every successful person out there – you will see that they got to where they are in life by simply being themselves. You are never going to be better at being somebody else than that person is, but you will always be better than others at being yourself.
Make sense? I sure hope so.
The point is, be you. Yeah, you are different. We are all different. Don’t hide from those differences. Let them shine. Let them showcase your strengths and what makes you truly freaking awesome! The world loves authenticity, so if you want the world to love you back, be your authentic self!
5. Don’t give up
Giving up has never solved anything. It has never helped anyone get closer to their goals, and it has never and never will bring success to anybody.
If you want to grow a YouTube channel, then you need to be in it for the long haul. Everybody starts from somewhere. Don’t compare your beginning to the ending of other successful individuals. Realize the process and the hard work that is going to go into starting a YouTube channel and enjoy every ounce of the process.
No matter what you do, don’t give up. The only way you will ever know what could be is if you continue to move forward with all of your might.
