It’s no question that mindset plays a crucial role in our day to day lives. Our mindsets control how we think, the actions that we take, the presumptions that we conclude within the walls of our minds, it’s the initial spark to any of the success or failure that we endure. 

Yet, despite being arguably one of the most important factors in our lives, many of us struggle to master our mindset or even make a valid attempt to try and do so. We allow others to define our lives for us, to allow our failures to stop us, and to conform to the beliefs of the world around us. 

The best thing about your mindset is that you can change it at any time. That doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy, but once you start to make an effort to master your mindset, life as you know it will get easier and become a lot more enjoyable. 

Now when I was going through my depression (and still on days where I experience negative thoughts), focusing on the power of the mind is incredibly hard to do. Had somebody tried to tell me to do so, I would have got angry at them and probably would have used a few foul words. That’s just how bad of a spot I was in mentally. 

It’s hard to shift your thinking when your mood won’t permit. But this is when you truly have to dig deeper than ever and focus on the life that you desire to live. Unless you do, nothing is ever going to change. 

Master Your Mindset

If you want a mindset that leads to a successful life you have to take a look at the thoughts that you are currently thinking with your thoughts. Are your thoughts a reflection of the type of person you want to become? Are they pushing you towards the goals that you want to achieve? If not, then you need to change them. Your thoughts need to be an exact reflection of who you want to be and the life that you want to live.

When you change your thoughts, you will change your feelings as well. You will start to perceive certain situations in a different light, and you will eliminate the triggers that set off the thoughts that you do not wish to reflect. 

How To Master Your Mindset

To master your mindset, you must be cognizant of the thoughts that you think and practice what you wish to reflect on a daily basis. Here are 5 things that you can start doing today that will help you to master your mindset. 

1. Let go of the past.

Your past does not define you! 

I can’t stress this enough. Everybody has things from their past that they are not necessarily proud of. Everybody has experienced pain in their past that they never wish to feel again. The good news is that the past is the past, so we don’t have to experience any of it again unless we allow ourselves to. 

It is not going to do any of us any good to spend our present time focusing on the things that we will never be able to change. When we allow the past into our minds, we are only allowing them to steal away our present. It’s time that we let go of the past once and for all, recognize the beauty that is our lives now, and make every moment count knowing that it could be our last.

2. Acknowledge your thoughts and push aside negative ones.

Here is what I have learned in my own personal life. It is not going to do you any good to act like your negative thoughts don’t exist. When we fail to acknowledge our negative thoughts, we are only placing them in the back of our minds where they have time and the ability to grow. Unless we recognize them and realize that they no longer reflect who we are, we will only be adding to the chaos and misery that they cause. 

This is why in meditation, we are taught to be aware of our thoughts, and when something comes to mind that is distracting, gently move it to the side and come back to it later. It’s not saying to forget about the thought completely, because that simply won’t be beneficial in any way. 

So when you experience negative thoughts, just remind yourself that you are better than these negative thoughts. The more you recognize them and remind yourself of all that you are, the less present they will be. 

3. Create a positive environment around you.

Environment matters. Who you spend your time with and where you spend your time plays such a crucial role in being able to master your mindset. If you are not in an environment that is best suited for your lifestyle, then you are going to have a far more difficult time achieving anything, and ultimately, mastering your mindset. 

Take a look at the relationships that you have. Who are the individuals that you spend the most time with? We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. This means that if we spend our time around negative individuals, we will develop some of their habits. If we spend our time around positive individuals, we will develop those habits as well. It’s all about being around those who you most want to resemble. 

The same goes for your environment. Many people overlook this, but if your physical environment is a cluster, your mental environment will be the same. Stay organized, keep a clean room, and put yourself in an environment that is going to allow you to succeed. The better your environment is, the better chance you will stand in being able to master your mind. 

4. Set goals and follow your dreams.

The only way you are going to grow and develop your mind is if you learn to challenge it. Your mind is similar to a muscle. If you want to grow your muscles, you need to exercise them and challenge them. The same can be said for your mind. If you want to grow your mental strength and master your mindset, you need to challenge your mind and develop it. 

Goals give us a sense of purpose. They give us a clear direction for our life. The more goals we set, the more we are challenging our minds to manage all of these tasks and to develop our skills. This doesn’t mean you should just sit and set goals. You also have to be willing to act because a goal without action is just a dream that you will never achieve. 

Listen to your mind, know what it wants, set goals for how you want your life to look, and follow all of your dreams. The more you believe in yourself and the more chances you take, the stronger you will become both mentally and physically. 

5. Practice gratitude daily.

I never used to know or understand the importance of gratitude, but let me be the first to say that I was missing out. 

There is so much to be grateful for. We often get so caught up in the negatives in life and focus on all of the things that we don’t have, that we forget to recognize and acknowledge all that we do have. 

When you start to practice gratitude, you start to focus on all of the blessings that fill your life. You start finding peace and happiness with the very life that you already have. All of a sudden, the negatives don’t have the same impact that they once had on you and life as you know it will be better than ever before. 

Start by simply writing down five things that you are grateful for each morning. As you get comfortable with that, share what you are grateful for with those who matter the most to you. The more gratitude you spread, the more you will feel it.

Conclusion

Don’t allow your mind to prevent you from achieving the goals that you have set for yourself or to live the life that you have always desired. Take control of your mind so that you can take control of your life. 

Make yourself your number one priority. Better yourself so that you can better those around you. Be aware of your thoughts, believe in yourself and all that you are, and make the most of the one life that you get to live. Master your mindset so that you can be the person that you were intended to be.
